Hieronymus Lex and his endlesspursuit of the Gray Foxhave disrupted the plans of the Thieves Guild for too long, which is why thisOblivion Remasteredquest will seek to get him reassigned to Anvil, where he can no longer pursue the Gray Fox through the resources of the Imperial City.
Now, the Thieves Guild is not a band of killers like the Dark Brotherhood, so players are going to have to get crafty in reassigning Hieronymus Lex. Luckily, there’s a letter to forge to kick Hieronymus Lex out of the Imperial City, and here’s exactly how to safely get that letter inOblivion Remastered.
How to Get Taking Care of Lex Quest in Oblivion Remastered
Taking Care of Lex is a Thieves Guild quest that becomes available to players after they have fenced a total of 500 Gold to any of the Thieves Guild merchants, and once they have completed the previous quest,Lost Histories. After which, players can head to S’Krivva in Bravil for her final special job that involves taking down Hieronymus Lex once and for all.
How to Get the Recommendation Letter in Oblivion Remastered
The start of Taking Care of Lex will have players travel to Anvil, where they must seek out a Recommendation Letter. The Recommendation Letter can be found in Dairihill’s desk inside Castle Anvil, and the easiest way to get it is by talking to Orrin, the blacksmith found in Anvil Castle’s Smithy area. Speaking to Orrin about Dairihill will have him guide players to the first room on the right in the Smithy area, where a movable pillar can be interacted with to reveal a secret route to the Private Quarters area.
Players will want to wait until after 1 AM to venture into the restricted Private Quarters, as that will avoid Dairihill being in his room, and provide just one guard to avoid, who patrols the Private Quarters. Once players have accessed the Private Quarters, head to the first room on the left anduse a lockpickon Dairihill’s desk to take the letter inside.
Before picking up the letter, create a separate save file, as the next step can sometimes be buggy, in which the master forger does not actually forge the letter. If that occurs in your game, simply reload the save, pick up the letter, and try again. This might take a few reloads to work.
How to Find the Master Forger in Oblivion Remastered
Now that players have stolen the letter from Dairihill’s desk, head out the same way you came in for the safest escape without being spotted. Now, it’s time to find a master forger in order to process the letter. Players can find a master forger known as A Stranger, in the Abandoned House near Anvil’s Mages Guild Hall. Inside the Abandoned House, players can speak with A Stranger to forge a letter, but he has a fee of 500 Gold and will take 24 hours to complete the forgery. As such, make sure you have enough Gold, and simply wait in the Abandoned House for 24 in-game hours to receive the letter from him.
If the Stranger refuses to give back the forged letter, then he has glitched, and in that case, players will want to try a few bug fixes for Taking Care of Lex:
How to Get the Imperial Seal in Oblivion Remastered
Now that players have the forged letter from the Stranger, it’s time to make it official with an Imperial Seal. to use the Imperial Seal, players must venture to the Imperial Legion Offices found in the Prison District of the Imperial City. Players will want to wait until it’s after midnight to enter the building so that there are no guards in the dining area, and then head through the doors on the right and interact with the Imperial Seal to use it. Once completed, leave the building toavoid detection from the guards, who will be hostile to trespassing players.
How to Reassign Hieronymus Lex in Oblivion Remastered
With the forged letter now branded with an Imperial Seal, it’s time to give the letter to Countess Millona Umbranox, found in Anvil Castle. Speaking with Countess Umbranox about Hieronymus Lex will give her the confidence to reassign him to Anvil, and now all that’s left is to deliver the news in person. After speaking with Countess Umbranox, head into the Waterfront District of the Imperial City and speak with Hieronymus Lex, who will begrudgingly accept his new position in Anvil and flee the Imperial City forever.
After returning to S’Kivva, players will have completed her last Thieves Guild quest, and they will be rewarded with 500 Gold, a Shadowfoot promotion, and a new Thieves Guild fence with Orrin in the Anvil Smithy. Completing this quest also provides players with the steps they need for thefirst Gray Fox quest.
