The Turtle Shell is a unique helmet that players can craft inMinecraftthat provides them with a Water Breathing status effect. Turtle Shells are the perfect helmet to go underwater mining/exploring with, as the Water Breathing effect provides them with an extra 10 seconds of air before their air bubbles run out and they suffocate, which is great for sea-faring explorers inMinecraft.
The Turtle Shell helmet can also be enchanted to even further advance the underwater capabilities, so it’s essential that players know how they can get their hands on one so that they can enjoy this advanced piece of armor and fight the Elder Guardians ofthe Ocean Monumentswith ease.
Where to Find Turtles in Minecraft
In order to get a Turtle Shell, players will first need to find Turtles. Turtles are found inMinecraftwithin sandy beach biomes within the Overworld. There is a small chance that they can spawn, and it’s usually around Y=60-67. In order to increase chances of finding them, head out during daylight hours in-game and search a multitude of areas with sand close to the ocean, as this will be the best way forward to find Turtles, so players can get a Turtle Shell.
How to Breed Turtles in Minecraft
How to Get Turtle Eggs in Minecraft
Once players have located Turtles inMinecraft, it’s time to breed them so that they can start laying eggs. Turtles can be bred with Seagrass, which is found underwater, usually on the sea floor. Seagrass can be harvested with Shears, and players can then use it with two Turtles to breed them. It’s worth noting that Turtles will only breed on the beach where they were born/spawned, so don’t kidnap the Turtles with leads just yet.
Once the Turtles breed, they will start to lay eggs in the sand. It’s imperative that players make a fenced area, aszombies are attractedto the Turtle Eggs and will attempt to destroy them. Alternatively, players can pick up the Turtle Eggs by harvesting them with a Silk Touch Pickaxe. Using a Silk Touch Pickaxe is great for raising Turtles yourself, as it allows players to change their imprinted spawn location. Itwill take around 5 in-game days for the eggs to hatch, and they must be placed on sand blocks.
How to Get Scute & the Turtle Shell Helmet in Minecraft
Scute is the crafting ingredient that players will need to make the Turtle Shell helmet inMinecraft, and these are only dropped from Baby Turtles once they grow into adults. The easiest way to get Scute is to breed Turtles and take their eggs with a Silk Touch Pickaxe, and then incubate the eggssomewhere safe, away from zombies. Wait for the Baby Turtles to hatch, and then use Seagrass (harvested with Shears) to feed the Baby Turtles and make them grow faster.
Once the Baby Turtles have grown up, they will drop Scute, and players only need 5 Scute to craft the Turtle Shell, with its recipe in the Crafting Table found below:
Scute
Turtle Shell helmets are not the only thing players can craft, as Scute is also used as the repair material for Turtle Shells when using an Anvil, and it’s also used for the Potion of the Turtle Master, which will slow players and mobs by 60%+, and reduces the damage they take by 60%+ for around 20 seconds.
