Once players reach the Scheduled for Execution quest inOblivion Remastered, they will be able to kill Valen Dreth, but it’s not as simple as putting a sword through his heart, as there’s quite a bit of espionage and uncovering involved to reach the target.
How to Get the Scheduled for Execution Quest in Oblivion Remastered
Once players complete theAccidents Happen questfor the Dark Brotherhood, they will be able to head back to the Sanctuary to speak with Vicente Valtieri and ask him for a new contract, providing players with the Scheduled for Execution quest. This Dark Brotherhood quest involves heading back to the Imperial City Prison, where the journey first started, to kill Valen Dreth, the aggressive Dark Elf who was a tad too rude to forget.
How to Sneak Through the Imperial Prison in Oblivion Remastered
To begin the quest, players are going to want to return to the Imperial City Sewer, found in the northeast area of the Imperial City. While the Imperial City Sewer was locked after the tutorial mission, Valtieri has provided players with a key. Once players enter the Imperial City Sewers, they can follow north through the linear path where they will kill mudcrabs and rats, but they will want to make a quicksave before entering the Sanctum.
Once players are inside the Sanctum, there will be two guards conversing. Players will need to wait for their conversation to finish so that they can proceed north through the open gate once the guard is safely through the room. To avoid detection, simplykeep in stealth, avoiding the use of heavy boots, and by keeping to the shadows. Be patient and let the guards pass in their patrols, and follow the path forward into the Imperial Subterrane.
To get to the Imperial Prison, players just need to follow the path and avoid the patrolling guards in this final section. There’s nothing that players need to grab in these subsections, so simply crouch walk through in stealth and avoid killing guards if you want to get the bonus rewards at the end of the quest.
How to Kill Valen Dreth and Escape in Oblivion Remastered
After safely navigating past the patrolling guards, players will reach the Imperial Prison, standing in the same cell that they spawned in at the start of the game. As soon as players enter, they should wait and listen to the conversation between a guard and Valen Dreth. Their conversation can be somewhat lengthy, so just wait for it to end so that the guard leaves the room.
Once the guard leaves, exit your cell and head to the left, where on a table, there are two sets of keys. One key is for Valen Dreth’s cell, and the other is for the Imperial Prison’s exit. With the keys acquired, players have a few ways to kill Valen Dreth, with the easiest being with a bow and arrow so that he cannot flee. The second way is to simply unlock his cell and kill him with a weapon of your choice, but be warned, when his cell opens, he will try to flee.
With Valen now dead, players have two options. They can either leave the way they came in or try to sneak out through the Bastion. The Bastion is just one single room with 2 guards, but as soon as players are able to reach the door, they will not be stopped by guards, and they are free to fast travel back to Valtier in theDark Brotherhood’s Sanctuary.
The reward for not killing any guards and only killing Valen Dreth is the Scales of Pitiless Justice, which is a miscellaneous item that increases the following stats as long as players have it in their inventory:
