Like many of its predecessors,DOOM: The Dark Agesis packed full of secret areas. Most of them can only be found by thoroughly exploring the map, but this isn’t always the case. During the second half ofthe game’s second chapter, players will walk past a broken pipe spewing red-hot flames over a doorway and will need to find a way to extinguish these flames to get inside.

At first, it seems as though players might need to access the area above the doorway to find where the pipes lead, but an invisible wall prevents them from doing so. Following the structure round will lead them to the exit of the secret area, but this door can only be opened from the other side. As such, opening the fire door inDOOM: The Dark Agesrequires a slightly different approach.

How to Open the Lava Door in DOOM: The Dark Ages

In order to stop the flames, players should continue past the broken pipe and head up the nearby steps. If they look to their left here, they’ll see a climbable wall, which will take them to a rooftop area with a few pieces of Gold. After collecting the Gold, they’ll want to throwthe Slayer’s Shield Sawat the red metal cross on the wall over to their right and then jump through the resulting hole.

Inside this new structure, they’ll need to look for a valve to the right of the doorway and then press either the Circle (PlayStation) or B (Xbox) button to interact with it. Turning this valve will stop the flames, and the door will automatically open, thus granting access to the secret area on the other side. Sadly, the rewards for opening the lava door are a little underwhelming.

Inside the fire door secret area, players will findnine pieces of Gold and a Life Sigil, as well as a solitary enemy and some ammo and health pickups. Once they’re done looting everything, they can throw their shield at the hot metal cross on the exit gate, which will take them back to the outside area, where they can continue on with the chapter as normal.
