Last Epoch’sendgame offers plenty of ways for players to get loot and become more powerful. Much of the grind takes place in the Echoes within the Monoliths of Fates, and while these maps are already fairly rewarding by default, players can kick things up a notch by using the Corruption mechanic.
Corruption is exclusive to the Monolith of Fates endgame inLast Epoch, and it can drastically affect both the difficulty and the rewards you earn from clearing Echoes. This mechanic isn’t immediately obvious, though, so here’s a guide on how you can take advantage of it.
How to Gain Corruption in Last Epoch
you may get Corruption stacks for your current timeline byfighting and defeating the Shade of Orobyss, a boss that usually appears at the edge of an Echo web (i.e. your timeline’s randomized map of interconnected Echoes). Play through a Monolith as normal, and once you reach the edge of the web, you should be able tosee a tile called “Echo of a World"where the Shade of Orobyss can be found.
Enter the Echo and fight the boss. Once you beat it, the timeline’s Corruption level should increase by whatever amount is specified on the Echo. The amount should be relatively small, though the amount of Corruption you gaindepends on how far away the Echo of a World isfrom the starting point of the timeline.
Defeating Shades of Orobyss will reset your current Echo web.
If you’re on a normal timeline, you can have up to 50 Corruption stacks max.Empowered Timelines have no Corruption stack caps. Additionally, if you beat an Empowered Timeline boss, you gain a stack ofGaze of Orobyss, which will increase the amount of Corruption you earn from your next Shade of Orobyss kill.
What Does Corruption Do?
Every point of Corruption increases the health and damage dealt by enemies in a timeline while also increasing your XP gains and improving the rarity of dropped items.
The higher the Corruption level, the better your rewards. Try not to push your luck, though, as you’re able to potentially brick yourself and force a timeline reset if you push the Corruption level too high.
How to Reset Corruption
In case you do end up pushing the Corruption level too much, you’re able to reset it by going to theSanctuary of Eterra node, which should beright next to your Echo Originon the Monolith of Fates. By completing this node, you can choose to either reduce the timeline’s Corruption by a small-medium amount, or completely reset the timeline back to normal, giving you an easier time in case youneed to optimize your build.
