Joining the Thieves Guild means that players desire the thrills of being a master thief, but the Thieves Guild works far more independently than other factions. Upon joining the Thieves Guild inOblivion Remastered, players will not have a straightforward quest chain to follow, as instead, they will have to impress the Thieves Guild with their skills to unlock special missions for them.

The first of the Thieves Guild missions, Untaxing the Poor, has its own unlock requirements inOblivion Remastered, along with a difficult infiltration of the Imperial City’s guards barracks to steal some tax records, so here’s how to successfully do it all as part of the Thieves Guild.

Ongar is a Thieves Guild fence where players can sell the jewelry that they just stole, and after selling 50 Gold’s worth of jewelry, they can head back to Armand Christophe in the Waterfront District of the Imperial City, and speak to him after midnight to select the dialogue option: Thieves Guild Special Jobs.

How to Successfully Steal the Tax Records in Oblivion Remastered

After accepting thejob from Armand, players will begin the Untaxing the Poor quest. This is the first quest in the Thieves Guild to raise the player’s rank in the faction, and it requires that they steal Hieronymus Lex’s tax records. To begin, players are going to want to enter the South Watchtower of the Imperial City found in the Arboretum, but be warned, this area is swarming with guards. Some of the guards will be eating, wandering, or sleeping in the quarters, and players are tasked with heading to Hieronymus Lex’s quarters undetected.

The easiest way to steal the tax records and enter Hieronymus Lex’s quarters is to wait between 9 AM to 11 PM and 9 PM to 11 PM. Between these times, the ground floor of the South Watchtower will be empty, allowing players to trespass upstairs where they will want to head up the ladders on the west corners of the room until they reach Hieronymus Lex’s office.

The easiest way to sneak past guards is to unequip armor, especially boots. Heavy boots will make the most noise, so remove them before sneaking around so that guards do not wake up from their beds. Once players have managed to make it to the top of the South Watchtower, look to the right to find a locked desk thatcan be openedfor the Waterfront Tax Records. With this item obtained, head back out the way you came in and then return to Armand at midnight in his usual spot.

Completing Untaxing the Poor provides players with the Footpad Rank and 2 Infamy Points.
