Sakamoto Daysanime may not have been as successful as some expected, but that doesn’t mean it is a failure. The first part of the anime sparked many discussions among fans — those who have read the manga believe that the quality of the animation is not on par with the manga. Many fans who were displeased with the first part hope that the next part will fix a few issues.
The Scene That Introduces Lu Shaotang in Sakamoto Days
In the video, director Masaki Watanabe and producer Genki Ito explain their choices behind the scene introducing Lu Shaotang inSakamoto Days Episode 2. Ito states that they wanted the scene to be impactful, and that they wanted to show Lu as both strong and adorable — Watanabe adds that they wanted it to look like Lu was falling from a great height, so they changed the perspective to give the impression that she was falling from higher than the fourth or fifth floor of a building. According to them, it was a challenging scene that required a lot of adjustments.
For the anime, the jump was animated in a way that made it seem a lot higher than it actually is. We stretched out the shot to make it look more dramatic. Maybe viewers won’t notice. I’ve done a good job if they don’t.
— Masaki Watanabe
It is refreshing to see the producers explaining their intentions and choices when making a scene, considering how much fans have complained about the animation’s quality. While many fans are right to say that action scenes sometimes feel too stiff, it is important to understand what the staff could do at that moment. Despite the controversies,Sakamoto Daysstill has a lot of views on Netflix.
When Will Sakamoto Days Part 2 Be Released?
So far, Netflix has only confirmed thatSakamoto Days Part 2will be released in July 2025, and that it will air on Mondays (the first part aired on Saturdays) —rumors suggest that the second part will be out on July 02, 2025, but that remains to be officially confirmed.
Fans who expect the animation to be different from the first part may be disappointed. That’s because Part 2 was probably already in production while Part 1 was airing, so they probably won’t have the time to make major changes, especially if those changes involve reworking too many scenes. However, if Season 2 is greenlit, then they will have more time to try a different approach to the anime.
