Last week, Hasbro unveiled more details about thenewMagic: The Gatheringcrossover withFinal Fantasy, which includes cards featuring tons of memorable characters from the long-running franchise. One of the most noteworthy cards of the new collaboration was Sephiroth’s, as the villain comes in two versions, and curiously, one of them has a distinct design that had not yet been seen in games. While the “Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER” card looks like what fans would expect, the “Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel” card depicts what seems to be a new form for Safer Sephiroth, the original game’s final boss.
Now,Final Fantasy Remake’s creative director, Tetsuya Nomura, addressed the new design (viaVGC), which he illustrated himself. “There is also a reason that the design for Safer Sephiroth is different from the original game, but I unfortunately can’t share more about that,” he said. While the answer is cryptic, it could indicate that it’s related to the upcoming third part of the trilogy. Some fans arespeculatingthat this could be Sephiroth’s new form, with many pointing out that it’s similar to the design that thepopularFinal Fantasyvillainhad inDissidia Final Fantasy, but with a few distinct changes.

Not much is currently known aboutFinal Fantasy Remake Part 3, including the game’s official name. Reports from earlier this year indicate thatFinal Fantasy Remake Part 3is progressing well, but the title is still not expected to be released before 2027. As the team has remained largely unchanged since Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the turnaround time has been positively affected, and many assets from previous titles may also help ease development.
Fortunately, the developers have recently confirmed thatFinal Fantasy Remake Part 3will be released on the PS5, despite it also likely being available for next-gen consoles. There’s also been speculation that the entire trilogy could be released on Xbox and the upcoming Switch 2, with the latter already confirming that the first game will be available on Nintendo’s newest hardware. In any case, gamers will have to wait some time before Square Enix releases more details about the eagerly awaited title.
