Its Season 2 premiered in April 2025 with a 97% approval rating as of this writing. The series was praised for its gritty narrative and intense exploration of rebellion, personal sacrifice, and political intrigue, making it a standout in theStar Warsfranchise. This season, one character was killed off, breaking fans' hearts because they didn’t see it coming.
AndorSeason 2, Episode 6, “The Ghorman Front,” features Cinta Kaz (Varada Sethu) and Vel (Faye Marsay) on a mission to Ghorman. They were to help the Ghorman’s counter-mission against the Empire, who mined the planet for energy and suppressed them. However, they were unready and unorganized, resulting in a brawl. A curious rogue bystander gets involved and accidentally fires a laser, fatally shooting Cinta. Her death deeply moved the audience because she’s a committed rebel and represents the queer community in theStar Warsuniverse. The tragedy is compounded by Cinta and Vel rekindling their romantic relationship. When Sethu was asked about her reaction to her character’s death, she said that Tony Gilroy warned her about Cinta’s fate in the second season even before she got the script. She admitted that it was “weird,” but she felt excitement. However, she also felt sad but agreed to it. Sethu explained:
I felt very sad that I wouldn’t be able to hang out with my friends and be on set for longer, for sure, but I thought it was such a brilliant ending.
How they wrote Cinta’s ending was exactly how Sethu saw it.TheDoctor Whostaradmitted that she always felt Cinta would “die in the rebellion.” According to Sethu, she couldn’t see Cinta surviving the rebellion. She acknowledged that it might appear dreadful, but its grim and impenitent themes are what makeAndordifferent from the other movies and shows inStar Wars. She added that their stories were not about the heroes, but those who “spill blood to lay the groundwork for someone greater to emerge.”
AndorSeason 2 is still ongoing, but it has already featured numerous deaths, including that of Brasso, Lieutenant Krole, and Tay Kolma. Their deaths contribute to the show’s portrayal ofRebellionand how it leads to personal loss and ethical ambiguity, no matter who you are. Cinta’s death was the most tragic because it reflected the unpredictable dangers that the members of the Rebellion faced. To make matters worse, her death happened in the most unexpected way. She was killed by a bystander and not an enemy. Her blossoming romance with Vel added emotional weight to the loss because they had just rekindled their romance.
Cinta’s death was already hard to swallow. However, some fans took it to another level, arguing that it wasn’t necessary and was only part of the “bury your gays” trope. However, Gilroy clarified that it was narrative-driven to show the harsh realities of rebellion. This makes sense, even Sethu, herself, sees no other ending for Cinta but to die due to the rebellion.
