HBO has dropped a terrifying teaser trailer forIT: Welcome to Derry, giving Stephen King fans a taste of the horrors to come as well as a sneak peek at Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise. The return to Derry looks set to be another horrific story surrounding the fictionalhorror-filled town of Derry in Maine, whose children are traumatized and murdered by the twisted and calculating Pennywise the Clown. Set in 1962, the upcoming series acts as a prequel to Andy Muschietti’sItfilms and will delve into a deeper exploration of the “It” world.
The twoITfilms followed Bill Skarsgård as the killer clown Pennywise as he haunted a group of children in the town of Derry in 1988 and then again when they were adults in 2016. Just like in King’s novel, ‘IT’ rises every 27 years to attack, andWelcome to Derryplans to reveal another time the murderous clown went on a rampage. The chosen period for the HBO series is 1962, aka the cycle before the one shown in the firstITfilm. The cast of the series includes Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, and James Remar, with Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise and serving as an executive producer.
Pennywise the Clown Is Back in New IT Welcome to Derry Teaser Trailer
Within hours of hinting at an upcoming full teaser trailer on social media with a short promo, HBO Max released its terrifyingpreview ofIT: Welcome to Derry. The official trailer begins with a young boy looking for a ride on a snowy, dark road, when a car eventually pulls up, allowing the freezing child some respite. The couple asks the boy where he lives so they can take him home, where he grimly replies, “Anywhere but Derry,” very much setting the stage for its sinister involvement revolving around Pennywise the clown.
Fans also get to see a family discussing missing kids in the town of Maine, before cutting to a scene of a young boy fishing in a lake, before a chilling shot of him struggling under the water, seemingly being grabbed by the sinister clown. But the fearsome scenes don’t stop there, as a police officer can next be seen tapping on a door, covered in sweat and donning a malicious smile, before the shot jumps to one of the children staring down a bathroom sink where Pennywise’s evil laugh can be heard. Right at the end of the teaser trailer, a quick glimpse ofPennywise can be seen emerging from the shadowsas he walks along a sewer tunnel.
Skarsgård had previously suggested that he wouldn’t be involved inWelcome to Derry,stating that hewas done with his role as Pennywiseuntil he learned the Muschiettis were involved. After agreeing to return, he also boarded the series as an executive producer. “We got to explore parts of Pennywise that we haven’t seen,” Skarsgård revealed, adding he was excited for fans to see what will unfold in the series.
