Summary

DC Studiosmay have officially rebooted its film and television universe, but that doesn’t mean stars of past films can’t come back for more. After all, Jason Momoa was Aquaman for years before being recast as Lobo in 2026’sSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. One other former DC star is holding out hope for a reunion in the DC Universe (DCU) as well.

Warner Bros.' DCEUdied an unceremonious death with 2023’sAquaman and the Lost Kingdomafter ten years of mostly lackluster results at the box office. Following years of boardroom shuffling involving Zack Snyder, Geoff Johns, Jon Berg, and Walter Hamada, the duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran was brought onboard to reinvent everything from the ground up in 2022. A clean slate was in order, and even popular stars of the DCEU like Henry Cavill were on the way out. WithSuperman’s release coming down the pike in July, hype for the brand-new DCU is at an all-time high. As such, actors are being asked about the DCU all the time, and one has signaled his intent to return if he is offered the chance to do so.

During an interview withVarietypromoting his new filmDangerous Animals, Jai Courtney was asked about working on previous DC films as Captain Boomerang of the Suicide Squad. Fans will remember that Courtney’s Boomerang perished during the opening of Gunn’s 2021The Suicide Squad, something that seriously bummed the Australian actor out. “I was like, ‘Come on, man. Boomerang is cool,'” Courtney toldVariety. “And James is like, ‘You know these rules don’t really apply. Just because he dies here doesn’t mean it’s gone forever, right?’ And I was like, ‘Hell yeah.’ So I have hope.”

“Somewhere in the back of my mind, there’s a prayer that we’ll see more of Boomerang one day.”

Jai Courtney Believes Captain Boomerang Could Return Somewhere Down The Line For DC Studios

James Gunnis the kind of director who loves working with actors on multiple projects. Once you’re in his inner circle, you’re seemingly in for life. Just ask Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Steve Agee, Linda Cardellini, and Gregg Henry what friendship with Gunn can do for your career. Courtney isn’t a part of Gunn’s list of frequent collaborators just yet, but Captain Boomerang was one of the few things people seemed to enjoy about the original 2016Suicide Squadfilm. Whether Courtney would return as Boomerang or a different character entirely remains to be seen, but having him return wouldn’t be the worst thing for DC or Courtney himself.

After hitting the big time with a supporting role in 2012’sJack Reacher,Courtneywas billed as one of Hollywood’s next big things. Starring roles in numerous franchises (Die Hard,Divergent,Terminator, and the DCEU) followed, but his career never really took off in the way many thought it would. A lot of that comes down to all of his major blockbusters faltering with critics and fans, to be fair, but Courtney didn’t go away. Earlier this year, he appeared in Netflix’sAmerican Primeval, and he’s set to star in the upcomingWar Machinewith names like Alan Ritchson and Dennis Quaid.

Even if Courtney doesn’t end up returning for aDC Studiosproject, he’ll seemingly always be able to get some kind of work in Tinseltown… not every actor can say that.
