Summary

TheJujutsu Kaisenfranchise is making the rounds once more in the anime industry due to the Q&A that the creator of the series, Gege Akutami, went on. This Q&A mostly dealt with the rivalry and fight between Gojo and Sukuna and served to clear up any misconceptions regarding these characters and their fated duel which served as the biggest battle inJujutsu Kaisen.

One specific comment made by Gege during this Q&Asent the entire fandom ablazewith excitement, however. This dealt with the reality of how Gojo died by Sukuna’s World Cutting Slash, making every fan of the Limitless sorcerer feel that they could breathe a sigh of relief as it confirmed that Gojo was the stronger out of the two. However, the reality is that fans read way too much into it, and the fact of the matter is that Sukuna will always be the strongest.

Story Arc

Fearsome Womb Arc

Gojo and Sukuna’s fight was always inevitable since it was teased in the very first chapter of the franchise. Here, the two powerhouses were fated to clash; as the strongest sorcerer of the modern era was teased to take on the strongest sorcerer of all time in a contest that would confirm whothe greatest sorcerer in the entire seriestruly was. Fans treated this like an actual sporting event, with people picking a side and cheering for their fighter.

This already showed that, no matter what the outcome was going to be, not everyone was going to be happy with the result. Upon the conclusion of the fight, half of the fanbase was left distraught at the death of one of the central characters of the story and the answer that Sukuna was actually the strongest sorcerer of all time instead of Gojo, with many outright quitting the series at that point. However, with Gege Akutami’s recent comments, the debate has reignited and Gojo’s diehard fans are convinced that the only reason he died was because of his own misjudgment.

After defeating Mahoraga, Gojo thought that Sukuna had no way to bypass his Infinity anymore. I think the usual Gojo would have sensed that something was amiss and could’ve avoided a fatal wound.

However, the truth of the matter is that, no matter how the battle would have played out, Sukuna would have gotten the upper hand over Gojo eventually. Althoughnone could ever reach Gojo and Sukuna, the latter was the most dangerous character in the history of the universe, and although Gege admitted that Gojo let his guard down at the wrong time, Sukuna always had this eventuality in mind ever since he learned of Mahoraga’s adaptation, so it all factored into his plan perfectly.

When Mahoraga adapted to Infinity, he was able to slash off Gojo’s arm, which caught him off guard entirely. Because of this, it’s clear to see that he had no way of realizing that Sukuna could do the same thing, especially since Mahoraga wasn’t there. Sukuna used his greater reserves of Cursed Energy, his superior knowledge of Cursed Energy, the perfect binding vows, and his immense overall power to make the perfect attack that would have killed Gojo whether he was off-guard or not.

Even if Gojo had an idea that Sukuna could have used such an attack, there wouldn’t have been any other way for him to dodge it other than simply moving out of the way, which still works in Sukuna’s favor. This is because, many times in the fight, Sukuna was able to hit Gojo with his slashes, proving that he could do so consistently. So, once he gathered enough energy, he could have unloaded this attack at a different moment.

Gojo wouldn’t have been able to tank this since his Infinity would have been rendered largely useless. The true crux of the argument is that some fans state Gojo is stronger when it comes to an offensive standpoint, whereas Sukuna is the smarter fighter out of the two. However, the unfortunate truth for many here is that, offensively, they are neck and neck, since Sukuna factored all of this in when he was taking Gojo on, while the latter part of him being the smarter fighter remains true.

Sukuna May Not Have Been Fighting At Full Strength

Was Sukuna Nerfed?

Let’s say that the argument is true, of Gojo being the stronger of the two overall and only really dying because he let his guard down. Despite this being the popular claim ever since Gege’s Q&A, it still doesn’t track because Sukuna himselflikely wasn’t fighting at full capacity either. This is because his true form was still hidden at this point, and he was still missing one finger.

Although a single finger may not have made a massive difference against Gojo, it still proves that Sukuna wasn’t fighting at 100% the whole time. Plus, the strength of his true form is far greater than any vessel he may have had, and it even served as a final method to heal him once he lost his Reverse Cursed Technique, making it yet another thing that Gojo would have had to deal with. All in all, while both of them are extremely close, Sukuna retains the title of the strongest sorcerer in history.
