Summary
Popular Twitch personalityKai Cenathas said that he will not be moving forward with more Streamer University, after backlash and financial strain he has had to deal with. The project was first announced in February 2025 with aHarry Potter-inspired trailer. The Streamer University was designed to help new and determined content creators grow by teaching and mentorship, giving mentees access to streaming equipment, and offering collaboration opportunities with high-profile figures. Kai Cenat is among the most popularTwitchstreamers and content creators in the world, with over 17 million followers.
The Streamer University is undoubtedly one of Cenat’s most ambitious endeavors yet. The goal of the project was to support rising talent in the harsh environment of the creator community. With the help of a real college campus, over 100 students and nearly 20 professors, comprised of well-known streamers, have been selected and are entering Streamer University in May 2025.
While the current class is underway, Cenat has now suggested that there will not be another class. During one of his livestreams, while talking about his ambitious creation, Cenat went on about the criticism he’s received, regardless of what he does, which, according to him, was simply to support the community he is part of. His past actions reflect a consistent track record of helping struggling streamers, including whenCenat offered to pay a fellow streamer’s real college tuition, or at least part of it, with a $10,000 donation. It seems now that the future of Streamer University is anything but guaranteed.
Streamer University Faces Early Shutdown Due to Criticism
Increased visibility often brings more scrutiny, andCenat is certainly not without controversy, but the reaction to Streamer University is overly negative, according to Cenat. Now it seems like he is done with the concept. He expressed his frustration about people always finding a way to hate on things, even when he’s the one who has to foot the bill, mentioning his bank statements are “ridiculous.”
However, now, with Streamer University’s potential end in sight, helping the community might once again have to be down to less coordinated, spontaneous acts. Many would argue, though, thatCenat helping families purchase groceriesone at a time is much less effective than college-like mass settings.
