Main protagonist Sora has already been confirmed, as have his faithful companions Donald Duck and Goofy. Newcomer Strelitzia will make her debut in the main series after first appearing in the mobile spin-offKingdom Hearts Union X, and Sora waking up in Quadratum could mean that players will get to learn more about the mysterious Yozora from thesecret ending ofKingdom Hearts 3and itsRe MindDLC.

The legendary Mickey Mouse was also sighted in one of therecentKingdom Hearts 4screenshots, standing on a chandelier platform in what appears to be a library. Reddit user MountValley has noted that in the Japanese version of the screenshot, an insignia can be seen on one of the bookcases that looks similar to the flags found in Scala Ad Caelum, the place where Sora battled Xehanort at the end ofKingdom Hearts 3.

Despite only being introduced in the most recent mainline entry, Scala Ad Caelum holds significant narrative importance for the largerKingdom Heartslore. Built over the remains ofKingdom Hearts X’s Daybreak Town, Scala Ad Caelum is said to be the central point from which all worlds spring, and was once a place where Keyblade masters like Xehanort and Eraqus trained. It was here that Sora and his friends finally beat Master Xehanort after a lengthy boss battle in which the player had to chase the evil Keyblade Master through Scala Ad Caelum’s empty city streets.

It seems like Mickey is on his own quest in Scala Ad Caelum, though his motives forbeing there inKingdom Hearts 4are unclear at this time. There’s also the chance that the symbol on the bookcase is just a coincidence, and Mickey Mouse is somewhere else entirely in the newKingdom Hearts 4screenshot. The game itself doesn’t have any sort of release window yet, so players still have ample time to speculate about what these images mean.
