A petition asking Square Enix to release the canceledKingdom Hearts Missing-Linkis blowing up on Change.org.Kingdom Hearts Missing-Linkwas in development as a mobile game spin-off of theKingdom Heartsfranchise. What made the project exciting for fans was that the game was going to have connections toKingdom Hearts 4, including characters that would appear in both titles.
Unfortunately forKingdom Heartsfans that were excited about the new mobile game,Kingdom Hearts Missing-Linkwas canceled by Square Enix. The cancellation came after Square Enix had already hosted testing phases for the game, with the company explaining that it didn’t think it would be able to deliver a product that players “would find satisfactory over a long period of time.” Square Enix apologized to fans, and while there are those who aren’t going to lose any sleep at night over aKingdom Heartsmobile game spin-off being canceled, some diehard fans are sad that the project has been scrapped.
These individuals have taken to aChange.org petitionasking Square Enix to releaseKingdom Hearts Missing-Link"in some form." The petition, started by user Illty Anon, has amassed nearly 1,500 signatures so far with new signees adding their name to the cause every few minutes or so. The petition points out howKingdom Hearts Missing-Linkwas going to be a “crucial chapter in the saga” that bridged the stories ofUnion CrossandDark Roadto “set the stage” forKingdom Hearts 4. “Now, all of that has been left hanging,” the petition says. It goes on to describeKingdom Hearts Missing-Linkbeing canceled as a “painful” gap in theKingdom Heartstimeline and asks Square Enix to release the game, or at least its story, in some form. Suggestions in the petition include simply releasing cutscenes, a cinematic film, or a reworked game. “The world and story ofMissing-Linkdeserves to be seen.”
Kingdom Hearts Petition Asks Square Enix to Release Missing-Link ‘In Some Shape or Form’
This isn’t the first time that aKingdom Heartsfranchise game has been canceled.Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keyswas a mobile game in developmenta little over a decade ago that was canceled before it was announced. Notably,Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keysreportedly featuredStar Wars, which would have turned plenty of heads, to say the least.
The world and story ofMissing-Linkdeserves to be seen.
While it’s always sad when a game is canceled,Kingdom Heartsfans worried aboutMissing-Linkruining the timeline can rest easy. It’s highly unlikely that there will suddenly be bigKingdom Heartsplot holes because ofMissing-Link’s cancellation, and chances are good thatKingdom Hearts 4would have always been perfectly fine to play without ever touching the mobile game. Square Enix released a fresh batch ofKingdom Hearts 4screenshotsas part of its apology to fans aboutMissing-Link’s cancellation, and so hopefully that can tide everyone over while they wait for a new trailer or more substantial information about the next game in the series.
