Summary

La Quimera, the upcoming first-person shooter from rebranded Metro dev Reburn, has been delayed at the very last minute. Originally set to launch on April 25,La Quimeramissed its planned release window, and no new launch date for the sci-fi FPS has been announced yet.

Announced just two months ago,La Quimera is the debut title of Reburn, a studio formed by developers previously known for the Metro series under the 4A Games Ukraine banner. Pegged as a futuristic sci-fi shooter set in a fictional Latin America in 2064,La Quimeragenerated a fair amount of buzz among FPS fans thanks to its impressive graphics, distinctive art style, and fast-paced action. Reburn even held a closed beta forLa Quimerajust two weeks ago, indicating that the game was on track for a smooth launch.

The plan went sideways on release day, though, asLa Quimera’s launch has been unexpectedly pushed. Reburn confirmed the delay via a statement from CEO Dmytro Lymar, who cited “unforeseen challenges” as the primary cause. As the Kyiv-based studio’s first game as an independent developer,La Quimeramay have experienced logistical hurdles in the final stages of production, and Lymar also referenced theongoing conflict in Ukraineas a factor complicating development and distribution. “We are trying our best to address the matters as quickly as possible, while also navigating the circumstances we’re faced with here in Ukraine,” said Lymar.

La Quimera’s Negative Reviews May Have Contributed to its Last-Minute Delay

No new timeline has been provided forLa Quimera’s release, but Reburn has confirmed that it will share updates on the sci-fi FPS via its social media channels. Interestingly, some publications published reviews ofLa Quimerajust prior to the delay, and they weren’t quite glowing. At the time of writing,La Quimera’s Metacritic pagefeatures two reviews, both of which rate the game a 4/10. Among the areas ofLa Quimera’s criticism were the short playtime (just three missions lasting around five hours total), a supposedly uninteresting story, contrived voice acting, and lots of bugs.

Therefore, the underwhelming reviews could have also influenced Reburn to delayLa Quimeraat the precipice of launch. Judging by the complaints,La Quimeramight benefit a lot from spending some more time in the oven. Reburn may be able to iron outLa Quimera’s purported technical kinks and possibly extend the replayability by adding more missions (or even a new game mode), though it remains to be seen how the story criticisms will be handled.La Quimera’s narrative was written in part by Nicolas Winding Refn, who notably directedDriveandplayed Heartman inDeath Stranding.
