Rockstar Games is gearing up for the release of the extremely anticipatedGrand Theft Auto 6, which has had its release date moved back to 2026. Fans are extremely eager for its launch and are being promised a lot, with the head of Take-Two claiming thatGTA 6was delayed to make it the best thinganyone’s ever seen. However, some fans are still hoping to see the return of other Rockstar titles, among themGrand Theft Auto 4andMax Payne 3.
Now, known leakerTez2 has sharedthat Rockstar Games had plans for aMax Payne 3port, but it may have since been canned or indefinitely postponed. In a prior leak, Tez2 said that someone at Rockstar had teased aGTA 4port, and that the original plan from years ago, during the pandemic era, was for aMax Payne 3port to follow it. However, they clarified that those plans allegedly changed after the release of thecritically pannedGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. Tez2 says that the changes to this plan mean that they now have no idea if there’s aMax Payne 3port in the works anymore, and that fans should probably assume that it’s not happening for now.
As fans of Rockstar Games are well aware, the so-calledDefinitive EditionofGTA 3,Vice City, andSan Andreaswere a tremendous messat launch. Glitches, visual problems, and arguable downgrades in some character models angered fans of the classics, and led to Rockstar Games releasing a number of patches to try and fix the worst parts. Rather than rushing out more potentially flawed versions of older games, it seems that Rockstar and Take-Two may have decided to slow their pace, though the rumor of aGTA 4port being in the works still stands.
While this news may be disappointing, there’s still good news forMax Paynefans. Remedy Entertainment is currently working onremakes ofMax PayneandMax Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which moved into full production last year. In the event that aMax Payne 3port is on hold, it may launch later on as part of a definitive edition featuring all three games. For now, though, players should take any news regarding the third entry with a grain of salt, as nothing official has been announced.
