Back in 2018, no one quite knew how Insomniac Games’Marvel’s Spider-Manwould turn out. While the character may be one of the biggest superheroes in the world, his video game catalog was a bit of a mixed bag. On top of that, the studio was mostly known forRatchet and ClankandSpyro the Dragon, which made this project feel extremely risky. But, upon release,Marvel’s Spider-Manblew players away and has kicked off a whole new franchise of superhero adventures.
Since its release, Insomniac has returned toMarvel’s Spider-Manwith a remaster, aMiles Moralesspin-off, and a fully-fledged sequel. Now, it ishard-at-work onMarvel’s Wolverine, but all eyes are on what the studio plans to do next with the web slinger. Even though nothing has been announced quite yet, it feels extremely likely that a third title will hit whatever comes after the PlayStation 5. But before it does release, Insomniac may also have the perfect way to bridge the gap: by following the franchise’s previous release schedule.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man Franchise May Have a Winning Release Schedule
Marvel’s Spider-Man Hyped Up the Sequel Extremely Well
AfterMarvel’s Spider-Manlaunched in 2018, Insomniac would go on to expand it with an expansion pack, but outside of that,no other Spider-Man-led adventureshit the PlayStation 4. Instead, it would take until the launch of the PlayStation 5 for Insomniac to delve further into the Marvel universe. While some may have thought that would come in the form of a sequel, the studio actually had different plans, which seemed to pay off immensely.
Alongside the launch of the PS5, Insomniac also released the spin-offMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, whichexplored Miles Morales' storyafter the events of the first game. That led to an exciting tale and expansion of the studio’s slice of the Marvel universe, but that was not the only adventure it had up its sleeve. In fact, it ended up launching alongside a remaster of the original game. So, both old and new players were given two Spider-Man tales to mess around with, and in 2023, the second game would finally hit store shelves as well.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Do the Same Thing for the Third Game
As of now, there is no news on what a third game will look like. However, according to many rumors and leaks, the next title may come in the form of aVenom spin-off. If that is true, then Insomniac already has the perfect release strategy laid out for it. Just like with the first game, if this spin-off is set to release alongside the PlayStation 6, then it should also come bundled with a full-on remaster of the second game. Then, players will once again have two Spider-Man-related titles to explore while they anxiously wait for the eventual third game.
If theVenomspin-off ends up releasing on the PS5, then Insomniac could kick off the PS6 generation with a full-on remaster of bothMarvel’s Spider-Man 2andVenom. That may not be exactly how it worked with the previous spin-off, but that could be the perfect way for players to tide themselves over until the third game. And in a perfect world, they would not have to wait too long to see that third title.
Again, nothing has been officially revealed. But it does feel increasingly likely that the third game in theMarvel’s Spider-Manfranchise will be skipping the PlayStation 5. As far as players know, Insomniac is currently building out itsMarvel’s Wolverinegame. So, while theVenomspin-off may hit the console, it will likely be a little while before the studio is able to release a fully-fledged third game in the series. However, that all remains to be seen.
