Now Sega has announced what it’s calling a “Virtua FighterDirect” event for June 27, 2025, at 7:00 AM PT, 9:00 AM ET, and 2:00 PM BST. The event promises to reveal “new developments” in theVirtua Fighterseries. Though Sega didn’t outline the program in detail, it’s likely that the event will formally unveilthe game fans have been callingVirtua Fighter 6, which teased in-engine concept footage back in January.

Beyond that concept footage and the fact thatYakuza/Like A Dragondeveloper Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is working on the game, almost nothing concrete is known about the newVirtua Fightergame. The reveal event is likely to expand more on the original concept footage, which featured highly evolved visuals and a mirror match between two versions ofVirtua Fighterposter character Akira. Sega could use the event to show off actual gameplay, confirm a release window, and announce target platforms, which are likely PC and current-generation consoles like the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Though it has been quite a while since the original release ofVirtua Fighter 5on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the game has maintained a consistent presence at major fighting game events and in the community for years. Sega even refreshed the game’s reputation somewhat with therecent release ofVirtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.on PC, which added game-changing rollback netcode and support for the higher performance thresholds enabled by modern PC hardware.
