Summary
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eaterwas released on the PS2 in 2004 and quickly gathered a good amount of reviews. As a prequel, it reset the status of the series, allowing anyone to enter. The game received various updates across different systems from the 3DS version to the HD remasters on PS3, but now there is a full remake on the way.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwas first teased in 2023 and is set to arrive in August. Whether it getsdelayed or not, likeGrand Theft Auto 6, let’s go through the confirmed features to build hype for its eventual release.
7The Camo System
A Quicker System
One of the big gameplay hooks of the original game was dressing Snake in various camouflage outfits to improve his stealth. Dressing in dark clothes at night would improve his invincibility from enemies, and dressing like a muddy pile would hide him if he were to lie in mud.
While the menu still exists, there is now a quick menu players can access via the D-Pad to swap between a few camouflage patterns at a time. This should improve the gameplay by removing a lot of the tedium of costume changes.
6Gunplay Improvements
Over The Shoulder Shooting
There were two main ways players could shoot in the PS2 versions of the game. They could shoot from the hip, which made it hard to aim, or players could go into a first-person perspective to guide their bullets.Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterhas adapted to many modern games now, as there is now an over-the-shoulder camera perspective.
It also appears that Snake can move while in this camera angle, giving players more mobility while in a fight. The first-person perspectivestill exists as well if players prefer to play the game more like an FPS, at least during gun battles.
5Snake Can Crouch
Get Low, Get Low
Fans of the original game may have forgotten that Snake only had two ways of getting around. He could walk tall on both legs, or he could go prone to crawl around. That was it, but since the original was released, more games in the series have given Snake and other characters the ability to crouch walk.
Crouching is now implemented inMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which should help with stealth. It’s amazing how many features the original game didn’t have asa stealth game in the early 2000sthat are so standard now.
4CQC And Holding Enemies Hostage
Make ‘Em Talk
CQC was a new mechanic in the original game, which was just afancier form of melee combat. It was tricky to master, but those who got deep into the gameplay could pull off some wild moves. One of the best uses of CQC was disarming enemies and holding them hostage.
Players could then press enemies to talk, which could lead to secret information about the story mission or where to find optional content like items. This integration mechanic is back inMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eateras seen in the trailers.
3A Small Codec Tweak
Let’s Hear About Godzilla
One of the most unique gameplay elements of the series, dating back to the original game, was the Codec system. This allowed characters to talk with their support team. They can learn about the mission, bosses, save, or just shoot the breeze with random info about pop culture.
TheoriginalGodzillamovie, for example, was a classic conversation inMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Like the quick access camouflage menu, the Codec system can now be accessed with the D-Pad inMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The Codec presentation still looks the same, though, and hasn’t been gussied up, which is a bit of a shame.
2Same Audio, Different Graphics
Relive Your Childhood EXACTLY
Another thing players will probably notice about the audio from most of the trailers is how identical it sounds to the original game. That’s because it is the same dialogue audio, and as of now, it is not known if the original voice cast re-recorded any new lines forMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
There are new modes, so it is possible that David Hayter, the voice of Naked Snake, did get into the recording booth at some point. Regardless of what could be new, for some, that original script was golden, making this remake all the more exciting to have better visuals with just cleaner audio.
1Snake vs Monkey
And More To Come
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistencewas a re-release on the PS2, which added new things, including Snake vs Monkey, a mini-game wherein Snake tried to find various apes from theApe Escapefranchise. This mode will be returning inMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterbut only in the PS5 and Steam versions.
On the homepage, there is a teaser image ofan outline of Bomberman, which will be exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. The webpage also says more gameplay modes will follow, so what those are is anyone’s guess. It should be noted thatMetal Gear Solid 3: Subsistencedid have a versus multiplayer mode as well, so perhaps that could be it.
