Summary

Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo have enjoyed a phenomenal rivalry inMy Hero Academiaright from the get-go. At the beginning of the story, this rivalry was rather one-sided,and Bakugo’s character was extremely jarring.

However, once Deku proved himself to be a true hero and earned the acknowledgment of even All Might, their rivalry started to heat up, and Bakugo became obsessed with surpassing him. Although their rivalry was toxic at one point, eventually, after Bakugo’s redemption, it became a lot better. The rivalry still exists to this day, even when Deku and Bakugo are best friends. Now, Deku seems to have surpassed Bakugo Katsuki.

How Deku Lost His Quirk At The End Of My Hero Academia

The ending ofMy Hero Academiawas good, but it was also one that split opinion. While the author wrapped up most plot points very well, at the same time, fans know that Deku losing his Quirk didn’t sit well with a lot of the fans. Deku losing the power of One For All was especially detrimental to his rivalry with Bakugo. While Bakugo always wanted to compete with Deku, now he lost his rival. This was truly sad for the fans to see, but Horikoshi somewhat mended this in the last chapter ofMy Hero Academia.

Farewell, One For All! — Izuku Midoriya before giving up his Quirk

InMy Hero AcademiaChapter 430, Horikoshi finally gave fansa good look at Deku’s new power— the Iron Suit. Just like the one that All Might donned in the final battle against All For One, Deku had his own suit now. This suit is known to be even more advanced than the one that All Might had, given that it has been 8 years since. According to All Might, technology has made huge leaps since and Deku’s armor is far more advanced.

Sadly, fans didn’t get to see Deku use his Iron Suit Powers much, given that 430 was the end of the story, and 431 didn’t really give fans any combat. In the Ultra Age Fanbook, which dropped earlier this month, some powers of the suit were finally revealed, and it is now confirmed that Deku can easily replicate the powers of the One For All with his Hero suit.

Deku Surpasses Bakugo In Hero Rankings

Deku Is The Number Four Hero While Bakugo Is the Number 5

Most recently, thanks to the Ultra Age Fanbook, it has now been confirmed that Deku has surpassed Bakugo in Hero rankings. Initially, Bakugo was the Number 4 Hero, but he went down to 15 due to his bad behavior. Deku, meanwhile, was always around the double digits. Now, however, it appears that Deku has made a huge jump in rankings. He’s officially the Number 4 Hero in Japan right now, and it seems that Bakugo has started taking things seriously as well, earning himself the Number 5 spot, just behind Deku.

Is Deku Stronger Than Bakugo Now?

While Deku is certainly very impressive right now, it is hard to say if he’s stronger. Fans know for a fact that Bakugo is the strongest Hero right now, with his power rivaling Mirio Togataor even surpassing it. Deku is either equal to that or maybe slightly weaker, due to not having a Quirk. It all depends on how strong the suit really is. If it is exactly as strong as the One For All, then Deku might even be stronger. But if it is weaker than One For All, then Bakugo is most certainly stronger than him.

TheMy Hero Academiamanga was wrapped up by the mangaka, Horikoshi, in 2024. The story features 430 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus, as the story used to be serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump when it was still ongoing.
