This article contains spoilers for the upcomingMy Hero Academia Season 8(also known asMHA The Final Season).
My Hero Academia Season 8(orMy Hero Academia Final Season) will be released this year and will bring the story to an end — of course, the manga ended a few months ago, but now it will all come to life in the anime.
The Final War Arc, which takes place from Chapter 343 to Chapter 424 (but there’s an epilogue after that), shows the long-awaited battle against All For One. How was he finally defeated, and why is this ending so “controversial”?
Who Defeated All For One In The Final War?
Well, actually,All For One/Shigaraki is not defeated by just one person— it takes a lot of teamwork to finally take him down for good. All Might, for example, has his final confrontation against All For One, but he was aided by the counter-force, including Endeavor, who forced Shigaraki to rewind his body back to its prime at the cost of his de-aging ability.
In fact, All Might almost dies in the battle, and thenBakugo enters into action. Katsuki plays a major role in this final battle, and he almost dies in it as well. Deku also joins the battle, andhe is the one who delivers the final blowthat defeats All For One, as was expected since the origins of All For One and One For All were revealed.
Together, we will go beyond.
— All Might
Considering that All For One was a megalomaniacal and narcissistic Villain who wanted to become the “Lord of the World,” it is veryappropriate that it wasn’t a single person, but a collective effort, that finally defeated him. It also makes the final arc an implicit confrontation of ideas, pure individualism vs. collective construction.
What Happened To Shigaraki After He Was Defeated?
All For One takes full control of Tomura Shigaraki’s body in the final events of the war, and he also attempts to steal One For All. It’s not only Deku vs. Tomura, but also the final confrontation between Yoichi and his older brother.
After All For One is finally defeated in this heated battle, Tomura’s body disintegrates and turns to ashesas he seems to finallyfind peace before dying. Despite everything, Deku is sad that he wasn’t able to save Tomura.
Is The Ending of MHA A Good One?
When the ending came out, many fans complained about it on social media. While each person will have their own opinion about the ending, it actually seems thata good portion of the complaints were due to the pacing and weekly schedule.
For example, fans who have binge-read the series right before the final chapter tend to think that it was a good ending. If it’s just about that, many will probably change their minds when the anime is out, because the action will feel even more real and intense.
Another portion of fans complained not about the war, but about the aftermath. For these fans, Deku should have become Hero Number 1 in the epilogue, instead of “simply” losing his Quirk and becoming a teacher (though that wouldn’t actually make much sense story-wise).
When Will The Final War Be Adapted Into Anime?
My Hero Academia Season 8will bereleased in October 2025— the exact release date is yet to be announced. It is already confirmed that this will be the final season — in fact, the anime has already started to adapt the Final War Arc in Episode 143, and most of Season 7 is the beginning of this arc.
There is, however, quite a remote chance that the very last events of the arc will be adapted into a movie or something like that.
My Hero Academia Season 8will be streamed on Crunchyroll, probably subbed and dubbed in many languages.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
