Even though the 2016 film had a host of big names like Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Irons and Marion Cotillard, that wasn’t enough to deem it a success. It was reviewed pretty harshly by critics and viewers alike, where it scored a measly 19% rating and a 42% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Some of the comments listed included muffled dialogue, making the film excruciatingly hard to follow, visually unappealing, and featuring an uninteresting cast. However, there’s new hope now thatNetflix can redeem the adaptation that many would rather forgetand breathe new life into the live-action franchise once more, as it ushers in a bunch of top-notch creatives into its writers’ room.
Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Series Has Found Its Writers’ Room
According toNexus Point News, the live-actionAssassin’s Creedtelevision series developed by Netflixhas now received a big update regarding its production progress as it has found its writers’ room, five years after the adaptation was initially revealed. Although it still isn’t clear what the narrative will include, who will star in it, or what stage the series is in regarding development, the site states that executive producer forWestworld,Roberto Patino, will helm the project, as well asHalo’s David Wiener.
Other producers and writers who will be joining the piecing together of the Netflix adaptation include HBO’sWatchmenandThe Acolyteco-executive producer Claire Kiechel, Jaquén Castellanos as co-executive producer (Good American FamilyandThe Affair), Sanaz Toossi as a staff writer, known forA League of Their Own,Emily St John Mandel, producer onStation Eleven,writer Sam Reynolds (The Walking Dead: World Beyond), and Daniel Goldberg and Tom Hemmings, who will both serve as staff writers.
Ubisoft and Netflix’s plans had been to develop three projects, which would include two animated and one in live-action, but as yet, none of these have seen the light of day. Jeb Stuart, known for creating theNetflix television seriesVikings: Valhalla, was the showrunner for theAssassin’s Creedtelevision series but left the project two years ago. Now, with video game adaptations on the upward climb, all thanks to shows likeFalloutandThe Last of Us, this is probably the best time for anAssassin’s Creedlive-action to go ahead and redeem itself from its dire adaptation mistakes.
