Summary

Netflix’sOne Pieceseason 2 will cover multiple arcs, and the one that seems to be the most anticipated is the Drum Island arc. Many notable characters are introduced as the Straw Hats find themselves on the winter island. From the first mention of Marshall D. Teach, otherwise known as Blackbeard, and the first appearance of Portgas D. Ace or Fire Fist Ace, the Drum Island arc introduces the audience to some key characters of the narrative. And, of course, this arc wouldn’t be complete without the newest Straw Hat, Tony Tony Chopper.

All eyes are on Netflix’sOne Pieceseason 2, with new and existing fans having high expectations after thesuccessful run of the first season. Will the succeeding season of theOne Piecelive-action remake live up to the glory of its predecessor? If the series manages to successfully pull off key points and moments in the Drum Island arc, the future of the series could be even more promising, to say the least.

The Drum Island Arc Will Have Spectacular Set Designs and Special Effects

Drum Island might seem like a vast country of snow on the surface, but it takes painstaking effort to replicate the nuances of the kingdom. Reminiscent of places in European fairy tales, this kingdom of snow houses a quaint village and a towering castle located at the top of a mountain. In aninterview posted on Netflix’s One Piece TikTok account, Ty Keogh, who plays Dalton, shared how impressed he was by the details of the outdoor set of Drum Island, but the grandest one for him was Wapol’s throne room.

The previous set tours andpromotional material forOne Pieceseason 2mostly covered Loguetown and Twin Cape, which were breathtaking. Every detail, most of which are also easter eggs, makes each set feel like it was pulled right out of the manga or anime. And with that caliber of creative genius for the two sets, fans can more or less assume that Drum Island will be just as, if not more, spectacular.

In addition to the grandiose set designs, thespecial effects used for Netflix’sOne Piecelive-action adaptation are worth noting. Drum Island sets the stage for the introduction of the first two Zoan devil fruit users of the story. With many fans curious about the transformations of these Zoan types, the anticipation for this arc will be high. And ifOne Pieceseason 1 proved anything, the remake expertly recreates Oda’s vision and achieves magical realism.

Tony Tony Chopper and His Heartbreaking Backstory Will Be Revealed In One Piece Season 2

Each Straw Hat member hastheir own origin story, most of which are tragic. Among Luffy’s crewmates, Tony Tony Chopper has one of the most heartbreaking tales. As a young reindeer, he was ostracized by his herd because he was born with a blue nose. When Chopper ate the Human-Human fruit, he no longer looked like the other reindeer. And so, he was forced out. With nowhere to go, he decided to transform into a human and assimilate into the village, a decision which led to more trauma and pain.

Evicted from his herd and shot by villagers, Chopper was left wounded and lying in the snow. Fortunately, an eccentric doctor came to his rescue. His savior, Dr. Hiriluk, took him under his wing, not caring that Chopper was a talking reindeer. He eventually became Chopper’s father figure, even giving him his name and teaching him about the world. However, with the doctor’s looming death, Chopper desperately tries to find a cure, only to be met with a cruel twist of fate.

Chopper’s backstory also reveals the horrors faced by the kingdom of Drum Island under the rulership of its former king, Wapol. Viewers will also see howDalton finally stood his groundand opposed the tyrannical monarch. And, of course, with the eventual demise of Dr. Hiriluk, his friend, Dr. Kureha, takes Chopper in and teaches him everything she knows about medicine, honoring the final wishes of the fallen eccentric doctor.

TheOne PieceLive-Action Could Have a Darker Interpretation Than the Anime

Netflix’sOne Pieceremake tends to be graphic and lean towards the dark themes of the manga. The Drum Island arc might not be inherently morbid, but some moments are likely grotesque. Wapol’s Munch-Munch fruit abilities would be at the top of the list of the most uncomfortable things to watch in action, specifically when used on humans. The effects used for Wapol could elicit the same reactions fans got when they sawArlong grow out his teethduring his battle with Luffy in season 1.

Other moments in the Drum Island arc will likely be bloody due to violence. Chopper’s backstory is a prime example of this scenario. Of course, Luffy’s ascent to the top of the Drum Rock with a sick Nami anda severely injured Sanjiwill be equally painful. Since the ascent of a frostbitten Luffy was a bloody journey, Netflix’sOne Piecewill most likely emphasize how painful the climb was for the captain of the Straw Hats.

The impactful and gut-wrenching deathof Dr. Hiriluk on the top of Drum Rock could also be reinterpreted in a much more tragic manner than how it was in the manga and anime. With the original source already managing to create a soul-crashing scene, there’s no doubt that the touch of realism in Netflix’s live-action remake will make the doctor’s death scene appear tragic beyond words.

New and Existing Fans Will Likely Enjoy the Remake’s Plot and Characters

The riveting story of the Drum Island arc is enough to endear the audience, especially with its emotionally charged happy ending. And with more lore about enigmatic characters being laid out in this arc, the plot thickens.

Fans can expect to experience a roller-coaster of emotions. From the comical encounters between Chopper and his future crewmates to people in the kingdom of snow upholding thelegacy of a visionary doctor, there will never be a dull moment in the final arc of Netflix’sOne Pieceremake.
