Summary
A new mod forThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredhas made a massive change to the game’s magic system, which should make it more lore-friendly. TheOblivion Remasteredmod has proven to be an early hit among the game’s PC players.
Although Bethesda confirmed that modding won’t be officially supported inOblivion Remastered, that hasn’t stopped talented creators from jumping in head-first and trying to bring their ideas for the game to life. Already, there have been tons of unique mods for the game. OneOblivion Remasteredmod even addedDark Souls-style player messages, adding an online touch to the single-player experience. It’s likely that the bestOblivion Remasteredmods are still yet to come, but it has been a good start so far.
The mod is titled “Necromancy is Actually Banned,” and can be found onNexus Modsby user MadAborModding. It does exactly what the title implies, banning the use of Necromancy magic when part of theOblivion RemasteredMages Guild. This is the case in the lore, so it makes sense to have this reflected in the gameplay. Players can still use Necromancy, but casting a spell in this school of magic will result in expulsion from the Mages Guild if done in front of a member. This “makes Necromancy feel like something you really need to hide.”
Lore-Friendly Oblivion Remastered Mod Bans Necromancy in the Mages Guild
“Necromancy is Actually Banned” also has an optional add-on that makes another important tweak, offering the choice to remove any Summon Undead spells from Mages Guild vendors. Given that these spells are now banned, it only makes sense. ThisOblivion Remasteredmodadds the Necromancy spells and tomes to other vendors outside the Mages Guild, so players can still acquire them if they’d like. It has proven to be a hit with PC players, currently amassing over 12,000 downloads on Nexus Mods.
WithOblivion Remasteredoff to a strong start in its first few weeks, the question now surrounds what the future holds for the game. Although new content is unlikely,Bethesda has asked forOblivion Remasteredfeedback from playersto see where improvements could be made going forward. This is a good sign thatOblivion Remasteredwill be supported for the foreseeable future.
