Classic PlayStation Themes Returning This Week

After introducing theclassic 30th anniversary themes for the PS5in December 2024, Sony then removed them on July 03, 2025. However, due to the sheer number of users who expressed their love for the feature, Sony confirmed that the themes would be making a comeback in a future update. After months of silence, a newblog posthas announced that the iconic PlayStation themes will return to the PS5 on April 24 as part of a new system software update. According to Sony, the upcoming PS5 update will roll out globally in a phased approach, beginning from tomorrow. This means that not all users will receive the update at the same time, so some fans may have to wait a little longer for the themes to return.

While thesespecial PlayStation themescould have been the beginning of something special for PS5 users, Sony has already stated that there are currently no additional themes in the works. Despite constant requests from fans for Sony to bring back console themes, it appears the studio is remaining firm in its approach for the time being. The good news, however, is that all PS5 owners will once again be able to customize their homescreen with classic PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 designs from tomorrow.

Alongside the return of classic themes, the upcomingPlayStation 5 firmware updatewill also introduce a new Audio Focus feature. The new audio setting enhances immersion by offering presets that amplify soft sounds to cater to individual hearing preferences, according to Sony, which aims to provide a clearer audio experience when using headsets or headphones. A range of different presets can be found under [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus], allowing players to more easily distinguish sounds such as in-game character dialogue, footsteps, party chat voices, and more.
