As the successor to the original Switch, the Switch 2 contains several upgrades from its predecessor. Along with a larger screen and enhanced graphical power, the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers have additional functions and can support some strange configurations, such asbeing attached to the console in reverse. Alongside a dedicated C-Button for GameChat, the Joy-Con 2’s main gimmick is mouse mode, which can be utilized by turning a Joy-Con controller on its long side and moving it along a flat surface like a PC mouse. Both the left and right Joy-Con 2 controllers can be used in mouse mode.
While theSwitch 2’s mouse mode could be a gold mine for developers and gamers, the new function also has a nifty use out of the box. In a video from the Nintendo Today app that was shared by Twitter user OatmealDome, Nintendo revealed that the Joy-Con 2’s mouse mode can be used to navigate the Switch 2’s Home Menu and other system functions. Nintendo shared a tutorial video clip of how the Switch 2’s mouse mode works on the Home Menu, and used the Right Joy-Con 2 controller as an example. After attaching the wrist strap and turning the Joy-Con on its long side, the Switch 2 will change to mouse mode. The video then showed how mouse mode can be utilized to access the Controllers menu from the Switch 2 main hub, with the R button simulating a left-click function.
Mouse Mode Can Be Used On The Switch 2 Home Menu
The right stick was used similarly to a scroll wheel, with scrolling down being emulated by tilting the stick toward the user’s palm. However, it is not clear if the ZR button will be used to simulate right-clicking. While theJoy-Con 2 controllers have other features carried over from the original Switch, like Gyro controls and Amiibo support, mouse mode functionality will only be supported in specific Switch 2 games and apps. Some of these games include the 3v3 wheelchair basketball titleDrag x Drive.
With theSwitch 2 expected to sell over 15 million unitswithin its first year, plenty of gamers will soon be able to test out the Joy-Con’s new mouse mode. Only time will tell how many games will be developed with mouse mode in mind.
