Summary
TheOblivion Remasteredsurprise announcement may not have been quite as surprising as intended, but that’s done nothing to dampen the excitement of fans of the classicElder Scrollsgame. The remaster is a delightfulmix of old and new, with a gorgeous new look powered by Unreal Engine 5, and some tweaked design in terms of leveling, combat, and traversal. Even with all those changes, the remaster remains faithful to the original release, with all the same content, voice acting, and characters that fans know and love.
One of the best ways to get the most out of all the loot players will find inOblivion Remasteredis Enchanting. This skill allows players to add magical properties to bothweapons and armor. Players can use any magical effect they know to enchant their gear, which means enchantment can help compliment any character build with the right additions.
There are a few steps for players to be able to access the enchanting altars needed to start creating their own enchantments though. The Hero can either join the mages' guild and complete a number of quests, or acquire the player home Frostcrag Spire and activate the altars within with the Magetallow Candle Box. Alternatively, players can pursue closing the Oblivion gates and use Sigil Stones to enchant fixed effects to their gear based on the stone type and rarity. Either way, it’s best to know what enchantments players want before committing the time and effort. These are some of the best armor enchantments inOblivion Remastered.
6Water Breathing
Expert Swimmer
Water Breathingis a useful effect to have on a piece of gear, especially if it’s something easy to carry around like a ring or amulet. It only comes in handy when the player has to explore underwater in caves or tocomplete specific quests, but when those situations arise, slipping on a ring is much easier than recasting the Waterbreathing spell multiple times.
5Feather
Increased Carry Weight
If players want to carry around alternative weapons, or haul a significant amount of loot back to a merchant, they’re going to need some extra carry weight. An easy way to get this for characters who aren’t investing in strength is to use a Feather spell. Putting the Feather effect onto a piece of gear will give a permanent buff to carry weight, letting players carry heavier gear or horde more treasure.
4Fortify Attribute
Play To Your Strengths
Fortify Attribute is a versatile effect that any character can use to buff their main stats. The effect can enchant any main attribute (Strength, Intelligence, Speed, Endurance, etc.) onto a piece of gear for a permanent buff while players wear it. This can be used to buff amajor attributeeven higher, or make up for a deficit in a particularly low main stat.
The attribute buff from an enchantment made with a decent-sized soul gem is well worth having, though this is a costly skill to enchant in terms of gold needed. On the plus side, if players know any Fortify Attribute spell, no matter how small, they can then enchant any attribute onto a piece of gear.
3Elemental / Magic Resistances
Spell-Proof
When players start fighting higher-level casters in Oblivion Remastered, higher-level spells can do a lot of damage. Players can mitigate this by enchanting resistances onto their gear. There are resistances for each element, as well as blanket resistance to magic damage. Players will be able to enchant a single element’s resistance higher than the cover-all magic resistance, proportional to the soul gem used. That means it’s possible to either go for specific gear for specific resistances, or try and go for balanced resistances on one set.
2Chameleon
Stealthy Approach
For players who want to take a stealthy approach, whether that’s for thievery or sneak attacks, the Chameleon spell can make a big difference. Combined with a high sneak skill, a Chameleon spell with a decent percentage can make players very difficult for enemies to see. That makes it easy to pilfer goods from merchants, or pick off enemies with a bow from stealth. Using Chameleon as anenchantmentis a way of permanently augmenting a player’s sneaking while they’re wearing the gear.
1Shield
Physical Resistance
Wearing armor lowers the effectiveness of spellcasting inOblivion Remastered, and the heavier the armor, the bigger the penalty. That means that players who want to focus on magic may choose to wear enchanted robes instead. That leaves them very vulnerable to physical attackers, though. The Shield spell from theAlteration schoolcan help mitigate this, providing percentage-based physical damage reduction. Enchanting this onto spellcaster gear can be a way to get the positive effects of wearing armor, without the negatives for a caster.
