Armor Type
Light Armor
This elegant set is a great choice for light armor, allowing players to protect themselves in style without losing maneuverability. Elven armor cannot be obtained straight after completing the tutorial, as players have to level up first up to level 15 before it starts spawning. However, players can obtain the entire set before level 15 byfollowing the Fighter’s Guild quest and defeating Azani Blackheart, from whom players can loot the armor.
The set’s stats arebetter than other light armorthat can be obtained early in the game, making it a great choice, especially when equipped at single-digit levels. Since it’s dropped from an enemy, players don’t have to worry about spending money. However, as players level up, enemies with better armor will appear.

Players can get the Raiment of Valorupon completing the Arena questline. There are two versions, light and heavy. After defeating the Gray Prince in the final arena match, players will receive whichever version they have the highest skill level in. The armor comes with enchantments that fortify Personality, Athletics, Fatigue, and Health.
Approaching the gladiator’s pit right after starting the adventure leads players on a thorny path, but it can give players a massive early game advantage. Players can do multiple things to make this journey an easy one. Lowering the game difficulty is an easy way to breeze through the arena. Equipping items and potions can also be quite useful during arena fights. With all being said, Raiment of Valor is a good early game choice that can take some time to acquire, but is well worth it.
There are a few bugs in the arena, so proceed with caution. Upon talking to Owyn while wearing the arena armor, Owyn may say that the arena is not open even when the time is right. Additionally, both versions of the Raiment Armor may break because of bugs. It is also advised to manually save the game before heading into arena, so that players can leave if they get stuck in a fight.

Chainmail armor is not the sturdiest, but it comes with decent durability stats and light weight, and is easyfor beginners to obtain. Starting at level 6, players can obtain Chainmail Armor in multiple locations. The full armor set (minus the helmet) becomes available around the end of the quest ‘Two Sides of the Coin,’ regardless of the Hero’s level. Some parts of the set also appear around the city of Kvatch. Players can buy the Chainmail cuirass from Marco Rufus at The Best Defense, regardless of their level.
The combination of chain and plated armor provides better durability for early-game armor. While the armor reduces movement speed to some extent, its durability and the ability to withstand enemy attacks make it worth looking for.

Umbra’s Ebony armor is a variant of Ebony Armor, and is stronger than most armor available before level 15. To get it, players must go to the ancient Ayelid ruins of Vindasel and defeat Umbra, the wood elf warrior in the lower end section of the dungeon. Though challenging to defeat, the gear she drops is extremely rewarding, especially early in the game. One strategy to defeat her is to step off the ledge and get out of Umbra’s range, and then defeat her with ranged weapons.
Upon defeat, players receive Umbra’s armor, along with a powerful weapon. The unique appearance of the armor is a big plus too. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the armor’s value fades after crossing the level 15 mark, as it has the same stats as the normal ebony armor.

Knights of the Nine is one of the most memorable quests inOblivion, and the iconic armor set given upon completion is worth all the hassle. Players can start the Knights of the Nineas soon as they finish the tutorial. Throughout the Pilgrimage storyline, players trigger a series of quests to collect the Crusader’s relics and create the famous Knights of the Nine armor set. While it is advised to level up to level 20 before obtaining this set in order to maximize stats, players are free to get it whenever they want. There are two versions of this armor: light and heavy. Players receive the set whose skill is higher.
Players should note that this armor cannot be equipped if players have even a single infamy point. The various armor pieces are stacked with passive abilities that fortify Restoration, Destruction, and Personality. Other passives in this set grant Reflect Spell, as well as resistance to weapons and disease.
If obtained before Level 20, players can place the Relics of the Crusader on an armor stand to re-level them to the current Hero’s level. This will repair and recharge them as well.

Being heavy armor, the Steel Armor set comes with great durability, providing excellent protection from enemy attacks. Players can buy it from The Best Defense, or obtain it for free as well from the Leowin’s Fighters' Guild.
Steel Armor offers solid protection all thewhile reducing the hassle of repairing it after every few battles. For melee-focused builds, the armor is quite effective. While players will have to let go of the armor after a few hours of gameplay, Steel Armor still makes up for a solid piece to equip early in the game.

Crafted for the high-ranking members of the Blackwood Company, Blackwood Armor is a variant of Steel Armor, andoffers a strong defense. However, to obtain it, players have to go through a good chunk of the Fighter’s Guild quest and reach the mission ‘Trolls of the Forsaken Mine,’ where players can loot this armor from a dead body. While the remaster has toned down the aesthetics of the Blackwood Armor, it still offers robust defense for the early game.

Among all the armor in the remaster, the Brusef Amelion’s Armor set is one of the most beautiful, ensuring players can begin their journey in style. The cuirass is enchanted with 6% Frost Shield, protecting players from attacks like Frost and Ice Storm. The armor set can be obtainedwhen players join the Fighters Guild and progress the Amelion’s Debt questline. When players are asked to retrieve Amelion’s cuirass and sword to cover the debt, they can choose to pay off the debt to keep the armor and weapon themselves.
All pieces of Amelion’s Armor weigh the same, making it unusually heavy given its stats, but sometimes this is the cost one has to pay for style. Because the item’s level is tied to the player’s level, the best version of this armor set can be acquired later on, but there are better armors for the late game.

Players start with bare minimum stats across different categories inOblivion Remastered. This limits their choice of armor, as they have to consider weight. This makes the Shrouded Armor a great choice, especially early on. Thanks to its light weight and Stealth-based enchantments, Shrouded Armor is a great asset.
The armor can be obtainedby following The Dark Brotherhood questline. To join the Brotherhood, players must kill an NPC. The set comes with a variety of enchantments that fortify Sneak, Illusion, Marksman, Blade, and Acrobatics. Players can unknowingly block some other questlines if they decide to follow the dark path, since it causes them to gain Infamy. But it is the cost one has to pay when one decides to be shrouded in the dark.
Players can avoid the Infamy penalty by killing specific NPCs that do not trigger it.
