Summary
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredplayers have pointed out a change that’s been made to Lelles' store, and they aren’t happy to see it.Oblivion Remasteredhas done an excellent job of bringing a refreshed version of the original game to fans, but there have been some issues that have bothered those who played the original.
Although there had been rumors for a long time that a remaster ofOblivionwas in the works, some fans didn’t believe it until Bethesda officially announced that it would be revealed. On the same day as its unveiling,Bethesda shadow-droppedOblivion Remastered, which quickly soared to have millions of players. Fans who have been eagerly awaitingThe Elder Scrolls 6have been enjoying diving intoOblivionall over again, or in some cases, for the first time.
Now, a player of the original called Xeredek has pointed out achange inOblivion Remasteredthat’s been made to Lelles' store, with the OP saying they’re “heartbroken” by it, and others have similarly voiced their disappointment. Xeredek pointed out a change to the sign in front of the store, which, inOblivion Remastered, simply spells out “Lelles' Quality Mercandise,” which is notably misspelled. However, the misspelling isn’t the problem, but the lack of attempt to correct it, as in the original. In the originalOblivion, a hastily scrawled “h” is added in the middle of the misspelled “Mercandise” in an effort to try and fix it. That “h” is missing inOblivion Remastered.
Why is Lelles' Sign a Problem?
In the grand scheme of the game, the sign above Lelles' store isn’t that important. However, the typo is something that actually gets talked about in the course of the game, including during an associatedFighter’s Guild quest. The proprietor, Norbert Lelles, admits that the sign is misspelled, calling it a “bit of bad luck.” Other NPCs make mention of it too, with a few pointing out that Lelles is a nice person, and runs a good shop, but isn’t the brightest or smartest, pointing to the sign mistake as an example of it. While it largely goes unspoken, the added ‘h’ to the sign in the original seems to have been an attempt to fix the issue by Lelles, and that little detail has now been stripped out of the remaster. Fans are unhappy to see this detail overlooked, and are hoping that a change will be made by Bethesda if enough players bring it to the developer’s attention.
As players spend more time inOblivion Remastered, the changes to the game have begun to pile up, and some of them have displeased fans. Previously, gamers shared complaints about a lamp in the Imperial City Arena that can no longer be interacted with, while others have lamentedchanges made to armor inOblivion Remasteredthat have led to items that used to have a unique appearance now being complete copies of other items. While these changes are unfortunate for long-time fans, it’s probably a good sign that complaints are being made over tiny details like this one and not huge performance or gameplay problems.
