Summary

AnElder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredplayer managed to save the Emperor, but didn’t get much gratitude in exchange. The opening ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionis one of the most memorable in any Bethesda game. Players start out in prison, but soon find themselves exploring secret tunnels with the Emperor and his guards as they attempt to save him from Mythic Dawn assassins.

Typically, the Emperor’s death inOblivionis inevitable because it’s what kicks off the events of the game. Without the Emperor dying,Oblivion Remastered’s main quest storylinedoesn’t make sense. Despite this, players have done their best to save the Emperor over the years, with one player recently having succeeded. Unfortunately, the Emperor didn’t seem to happy about being spared.

Reddit user Tylray managed tosave the EmperorinOblivion Remasteredby killing his assassin and getting him outside. Once the Emperor was out of the sewers, his dialogue options changed. Tylray asked the Emperor about rumors, to which he responded,“I don’t like you and don’t want to talk to you.“These extra lines of dialogue were apparently not recorded by Patrick Stewart, the Emperor’s usual voice actor, but by Wes Johnson, who voices various characters inOblivionand other Bethesda games.

Emperor’s Reaction to Being Saved in Oblivion Remastered

While saving the Emperor is not normally possible inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, mods open the doors to pretty much anything. Some of thebestOblivion Remasteredmods add quality-of-life featuresto the game, like letting players skip the sewer tutorial where the Emperor dies and a horse whistle that lets players call their horses directly to their location. If other Bethesda games are any indication, chances are good that there will be plenty moreOblivion Remasteredmods in the future that do all kinds of things in the game. It will be very interesting to see what elseOblivion Remastered’s modding community comes up with in the months ahead. In the meantime, members of the modding community are actually hard at work on a rather extensive mod forSkyrimthat remakesOblivionto be more in-line with its successor.Skyblivion is set to release in 2025and will feature all the content from the originalOblivionand its expansions, along with various improvements.
