The result is many significant families, often concentrated around a select few characters. Some of these families are large, often having important history to go along with their presence in the story.
These are some of the largest families inOne Piece. For simplicity’s sake, these families will be largely blood-related, meaning adopted relatives can count, but do not make up the majority. The list also focuses on known, or at the very least, mentioned, entities in the series. Not all members of a given family may be present, but there are at least a few prominent characters.
6The Kozuki Family

The Kozuki family hassignificant history in Wano, existing for centuries. They have historical ties to the Mink Tribe, and are the apparent inventors of the Poneglyphs, which Kozuki Sukiyaki can read. Sukiyaki was the former Shogun of Wano, and had positioned his son, Oden, to take his place. However, Oden’s rambunctious behavior led the elder Kozuki to banish him. Father and son reconciled once Sukiyaki took notice of his son’s authority and power.
Oden sailed with both the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates. Along the way he wed the time-traveling Amatsuki Toki, who bore him two children, Momonosuke and Hiyori. Ultimately, Oden never became shogun, as Kurozumi Orochi took over Wano and forced him to battle against Kaido. His wife, Toki, was lynched, but not before sending Momonosuke into the future with four of Oden’s trusted retainers, separating Hiyori from her brother. Sukiyaki survived the lynching, but felt guilty about his inability to prevent Orochi’s takeover, and became a hermit. After Orochi’s defeat, Momonosuke became shogun, re-asserting Kozuki authority over Wano.
5The Donquixote Family

The Donquixote family can trace their roots back to Dressrosa, the kingdom their ancestors ruled before becoming a part of the First Twenty, who founded the World Government, many of them becoming Celestial Dragons. Donquixote Homing abdicated his claim to being a Celestial Dragon, deciding to live as a commoner with his wife and their sons. However, the eldest son, Doflamingo, was upset at the loss of privilege.
Doflamingo’s mother died of illness, and he killed his father in frustration after gaining his first subordinates. His brother, Rosinante, became a marine and infiltrated the Donquixote Pirates, but ended up being identified as a spy, and killed by his brother.Doflamingo took over Dressrosa, and ruled as its king while also serving as a Warlord of the World Government. After being defeated by Monkey D. Luffy, he was sent to Impel Down, where he is currently incarcerated.
Homing’s family are not the only Donquixotes of note. Mjosgard was the second known Donquixote to declare himself a human rather than a god, though not without struggle. Jimbei’s promotion to Warlord led Mjosgard to lose his Fish-Man slaves as a condition. Mjosgard tracked them to Fish-Man Island, but was brutalized near death by them. However, he was spared by Queen Otohime, which led him to rethink his past philosophy. Charlos, a fellow Celestial Dragon, sought to enslave Shirahoshi, Otohime’s daughter, at the Reverie. Mjosgard defended her, but this resulted in his death by execution.
4The Vinsmoke Family
7 Members
The Vinsmoke family has existed for centuries as the rulers of theGerma Kingdom. Its present-day patriarch, Vinsmoke Judge, was involved in MADS, an innovative illegal research institute which discovered the lineage factor, which it used for cloning and other types of DNA tampering. Judge used his scientific know-how to genetically enhance his sons prior to their birth, making them emotionless super-humans. His wife, Sora, was opposed, and took a drug in a botched attempt to counter it.
The only son to show any resistance to the modification was the third son, Sanji, who had all his emotions but no special powers when he was born. Bullied by his brothers, he was close to his mother, Sora, whom he enjoyed cooking for. She supported him until her death. After Sora’s passing, Sanji was able to escape his family, with aid from his sister Reiju, to pursue his culinary ambitions.
Despite having disowned them, Sanji’s family attempted to collect him for an arranged marriage to Charlotte Pudding, with both families attempting to backstab each other. Ultimately, Sanji disowned his family once more. His superhuman abilities activated during Wano, much to his chagrin. However, his emotions are still intact.
3The Kurozumi Family
7+ Relatives
The Kurozumi family was prominent in Wano for many years. They attempted to take over the throne when a previous Kozuki shogun failed to father an heir. Upon the birth of Sukiyaki, their plans were foiled. However, lynch mobs materialized to attack innocent members of the Kurozumi Family, including Orochi, the grandson of the original culprit. This made it easy for Kurozumi Higurashi to convince the family to continue taking over the throne.
Orochi used the powers at his disposal to become Wano’s shogun in Oden’s absence. He was a hedonistic ruler with little regard for his subjects, and he ordered lynch mobs to assassinate the remaining Kozukis after Oden’s death at Kaido’s hands. He was deposed from power by Kaido, but survived due to his Devil Fruit giving him seven extra heads. He was eventually assassinated by Oden’s daughter, Hiyori, and his former comrade, Denjiro.
Kanjuro and his parents were stage actors, blameless in the attempted Kurozumi takeover. Nonetheless, Kanjuro’s parents were lynched in a misguided attempt at vengeance. Kanjuro was eventually enlisted by his relatives as one of Oden’s closest confidantes, and eventually became a member of the Nine Red Scabbards. Kanjuro always reported the actions of Oden and his allies to Orochi. His betrayal was discovered when Orochi asked him to break character and rejoin him. He was eventually killed by Kin’emon, the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards.
Tama is a kunoichi in training. Her Devil Fruit, the Kibi Kibi no Mi, played a vital role in the war between Kaido’s forces and the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance. She was able to feed Kibi dango to animals, including the SMILE eaters on Kaido’s forces, leading them to defect. Tama is a Kurozumi, but no one in her circle seems aware of her heritage.
2The Shimotsuki Family
10+ Relatives
The Shimotsuki Family has roots in Wano Country, withRyuma being their oldest ancestor. The Shimotsuki crest is a pair of crossed cutlasses, and, appropriately, many members are skilled with the blade. There are currently no identified blood-related members of the Shimotsuki clan living in Wano. Ushimaru, the former daimyo of Ringo, and Yasuie, the former daimyo of Hakumai, are both deceased. That said, Yasuie’s adopted daughter, Toko, still lives there.
Furiko, Ushimaru’s sister, and her relative Kouzaburou, a swordsmith, both settled in the East Blue and started families with the locals. Their descendants, Zoro and Kuina, were friends and rivals in their youth, both dreaming of becoming the World’s Strongest Swordsman. After an accident claimed Kuina’s life, Zoro resolved to become the World’s Strongest Swordsman for both of them.
Although Zoro shows some awareness of the Shimotsuki family, his knowledge of his own relation to them is unknown. It is unclear if he knew his grandmother, or even his parents, who are both deceased. Nonetheless, Zoro has encountered a handful of his relatives throughout his travels.
1The Charlotte Family

Once an orphan put up for adoption by her parents,Charlotte “Big Mom” Linlinhas 85 identified children and has had 43 husbands, who she took hostage and divorced after bearing their children. Linlin has three identified sons-in-law: Bege (husband of Chiffon), Aladine (husband of Praline), and Gotti (husband of Lola). She has one known grandson through Bege and Chiffon, Pez. All in all, the Charlotte Family is undeniably the biggest in the series.
