One Piecehas enjoyed an incredibly successful run over the years. Having begun serialization back in 1997,One Piecehas turned into one of the most successful pieces of fiction ever written. It is already the best-selling manga of all time, but at the same time, it is also one of the highest-selling stories all over the world as well.
One Piecehas achieved great things over the years and it is still going strong around 28 years later, with no signs of stopping anytime soon. That said, it is a fact thatOne Piececould very well have ended during the Dressrosa arc, which is something that not many fans know. This is a shocking fact that Oda revealed himself back in 2016, although it was common knowledge back in 2013 as well.
How One Piece Could’ve Ended During The Dressrosa Arc
When fans fear thatOne Piececould’ve potentially ended during the Dressrosa arc, they are often shocked. Some might wonder whether this wasbecause of Oda wanting to wrap things up, but that isn’t the case. In fact, Oda was far from wrapping up his story around 2013. It was his health that caused him all sorts of problems in 2013, just around the time when the story entered the Dressrosa arc. Back then, Oda’s health took a turn for the worse and he collapsed, upon his he required immediate medical attention.
This isn’t surprising at all, especially when taking into consideration the fact that Oda gets just about 3 hours of sleep a day, and works extremely hard throughout the week. Oda’s eating habits aren’t great either. Often, he eats nothing for days and then binge eats to make up for it, which could easily cause issues as serious as the ones he suffered in 2013. To put things simply, Oda’s health got so bad in 2013 that the editors at Jump were actually considering the possibility of One Piece reaching an abrupt end. Here’s what Oda had to say about this:
After I was hospitalized in 2013, Shonen Jump editors got scared that One Piece might have to suddenly end, so they began letting me take regular breaks. When I collapsed, I thought, “Editors, Have you finally realized that if I push myself too hard, I’ll collapse? — Eiichiro Oda, 2016
How Oda Takes Care Of Himself Better Now
Oda Takes A Lot More Breaks Now
Since Oda suffered the terrible episode in 2013, he’s been taking much better care of himself. Oda has been walking more often, and at the same time, he is also taking a lot more breaks. Back then, Oda hardly took a break and often, he dropped 6-7 chapters in a row. Now, however,Oda takes breaks more often. Oda often drops 3 chapters in a row and then goes on to take a break. This has helped him manage his help a lot better. At the same time, Oda also takes month-long hiatuses sometimes, which definitely helps. Hopefully, Oda won’t have to suffer another similar scare again.
