One PieceChapter 1148 has been rather polarizing. Oda’s approach to the chapter has sparked a lot of debate among fans. While most readers are happy with the chapter, some are concerned with the author’s treatment of Nico Robin. In the previous chapter, Oda had set upRobin’s biggest fight, and itlooked increasingly likely that she would end up putting a decent fight against her opponent. Unfortunately, Oda had other plans for her.
Shepherd Sommers is one of the main villains of the Elbaf arc. He was summoned by Gunko and Shamrock to carry out the task of kidnapping the children and forcing the Giants into submission. When Saul found out about the children being abducted, he wasted no time in rushing to their aid. Unfortunately for him, Sommers' thorns stood in the way.Sommers' Iba Iba no Mi made it easyfor him to overwhelm Saul and beat him to within an inch of his life.
Robin and Chopper remained hidden inside Saul’s hair and watched as the former Marine was ruthlessly beaten. Saul had advised them to stay hidden, but Robin couldn’t control herself for longer. So, she decided to attack Sommers and save the children.
Robin Needed A New Ability To Challenge The Holy Knights
The last few chapters have made it amply clearthat the Holy Knights are on acompletely different level from most fighters in Elbaf. Not only are they equipped with some of the strongest Devil Fruits in the series, but they are also immortal. So when Oda set up Robin to fight Shepherd Sommers, fans knew she needed some kind of power-up to fight on equal footing with him.
Many fans were anticipating that Oda would give Robin Armament Haki, a much-needed power-up, especially since the crew is in the New World. However, the author decided to give Robin the ability to clone herself. While it is a useful skill, it is nowhere near enough to harm the Holy Knights.
Robin used the clone to throw Sommers off a cliff so that his Devil Fruit power would stop affecting the children. Her plan was excellent, but Sommers was able to figure it out and deal with the clone. Next, he went back up and restrained the real Robin. Things were looking bad for Robin, but thankfully,Scopper Gaban arrived in the nickof time. He lopped off Sommers' right hand and then proceeded to make a huge cut on his torso.

It looks highly likely that Sommers is going to be beaten by Scopper Gaban. The Mountain Eater was able to land two devastating blows on Sommers, and the latter was unable to regenerate. If Gaban connects a couple more strikes, it’s curtains for Sommers, and once he’s beaten, the pendulum will swing in the favor of the heroes.Sommers' Iba Iba no Mi was oneof the main reasons why nobody could get near the children. Upon his extermination, it will be easier for the Straw Hats and the Giants to reach the children and save them from the clutches of the Holy Knights. Of course, it is worth mentioning that the two members of the group are no slouches. They will fight tooth and nail to ensure the success of the mission.

When Gunko and Killingham learn of Sommers' defeat, they will have to modify their approach. It’s likely that Gunko will go after Gaban or vice versa. Either way, both parties have to react quickly to ensure that they get what they want. The Holy Knights also want to erase Elbaf’s history, and while Jarul gave the order to burn the library, there is a chance that it won’t happen. One Piece Chapter 1149 will likely set up even more fights, and the winners of which will shape the future of Elbaf and the Giants.
