Summary

One PieceChapter 1148 was rather intense, both in terms of emotions and action. In the previous chapter, Oda had set up Nico Robin’s fight with Shepherd Sommers. Naturally, fans were excited to know how it would play out.

Theyknew that Eiichiro Oda would have to giveRobin some kind of power-up to help her fight against the Holy Knights. Most of them were expecting Robin to get Haki, but the author had other ideas.

Robin Got A New Power In Her Fight

While Shepherd Sommers was busy threatening Jarul,Nico Robin took the opportunity to launch a coupleof attacks on him. Sommers was shocked, so he couldn’t react in time and defend himself from them. Robin’s plan was to throw him off the cliff so that his Devil Fruit would stop working, and the children would be free. Unfortunately, Sommers was able to prevent his fall, after which he used the Iba Iba no Mi to attack her. He was surprised to see that the attacks didn’t cause Robin to bleed. Instead, her body dissipated into petals. Sommers realized that he was being played for a fool and that Robin was truly wise beyond her years.

Back on the ground, Robin was trying to free the Straw Hats. She knew that time was running out, and she had to save her friends quickly. Before Robin could do so,Sommers appeared and attacked her with vines. Things weren’t looking good for Robin, but luckily, Scopper Gaban arrived in the nick of time. He attacked Sommers' hand, and it did not grow back. The member of the Holy Knights was shocked to see that his hand wasn’t regenerating. Before Sommers could retaliate, Gaban launched another attack that cut his chest.

Sommers Is In Big Trouble And On The Cusp Of Defeat

The final panel of One Piece Chapter 1148 was Gaban with a serious look on his face. It is quite apparent that Gaban isn’t holding back, and he is looking to finish the fight as quickly as possible. The biggeststrength of the Holy Knights is their ability to regeneratefrom all kinds of damage, which effectively lets them keep fighting for as long as they like, because they cannot die. Oda had focused a lot on the Holy Knights' immortality because he wanted to make them seem unbeatable. This only makes Gaban’s feat more impressive.

Considering Gaban has managed to bypass the immortality of the Holy Knights, it means that his Haki is a cut above anyone else’s in the series (at least for now). His feat also means that Gaban can hurt the Five Elders, which puts him above the likes of Luffy, Zoro, Blackbeard, and Kaido.

There is also a chance that Scopper Gabanfought against Holy Knights in the past, which is why he knows how to counter their abilities. It would be remiss not to mention that Gaban was present in God Valley, where a massive brawl broke out between different sides. St. Figarland Garling and St. Jaygarcia Saturn were present on the island, and it’s safe to say that they fought against the pirates. Saturn had access to immortality, so it’s possible that Gaban might have seen the ability in action. This would explain how he was able to find a way to hurt Sommers without any problems.

Sommers' Defeat Means The Holy Knights Are At A Disadvantage

Given the fact thatSommers lost his hand andhas a cut across his torso, it’s safe to assume that it won’t be long before he goes down, and once that happens, the Holy Knights will be in big trouble. Gunko and Killingham will lose one of their main allies, which puts them at a disadvantage against the Straw Hats and their allies.

It is also likely that Gaban will disclose the secret to counter the Holy Knights' immortality with Luffy and the other fighters in Elbaf. This will make things worse for them, and they will either have to summon backup or risk losing their lives. There are still many questions, but Oda will reveal the answers in due course of time.
