Atlus has released plenty ofPersona 5spin-offs over the last few years, but there’s yet another entry in the series,Persona 5: The Phantom X, that’s coming out in the near future. Unlike any of its predecessors,Persona 5: The Phantom Xis a mobile gacha game that adapts the traditionalPersonaexperience into a free-to-play format. The game was released quite some time ago in select Asian regions, like China, South Korea, and Taiwan, but it hasn’t been translated to English yet. Fortunately, the game will be heading to the West sooner rather than later.

During a recent broadcast hosted by the Japanese voice cast of the game, Atlus confirmed thatPersona 5: The Phantom Xwill be released worldwidefor PC, iOS, and Android on June 26, 2025. Although the game won’t be available in certain territories, like Southeast Asia, it will be playable in most Western countries, as well as Japan. The international release ofPersona 5: Persona Xwill seemingly include most of the post-launch content that has been added to the Chinese version of the game. Surprisingly, though, it will not feature an English dub, despite it being a staple of thePersonaseries.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Will Not Have an English Dub

The debate between subs and dubs has been a contentious topic in the anime and video game communities since the dawn of the internet. Although some people prefer to experience entertainment with English voice acting whenever possible, others like to watch shows and play video games in their native languages. The preference touse subtitles over dubsis, frankly, pretty understandable. In the early days of the gaming industry, English dubs were often quite bad, especially for games made in Japan. However, the quality of video game voice acting has improved drastically over the years.

Even thoughPersonais almost 30 years old, the series' English dubs have been consistently high-quality, perhaps more so than most JRPGs. Dubs have beenpresent in thePersonafranchisesince its very first installment, 1996’sRevelations: Persona. Although that game’s English dub was relatively limited, later entries in the series, likePersona 3and4, had far more voice acting in them. The most recognizable voice cast in thePersonafranchise, though, arguably belongs toPersona 5.

Although P5X Has a New Cast of Characters, the English VAs from Persona 5 Could’ve Made a Return

Released internationally on the PS4 in 2017,Persona 5propelled thePersonaseries to new heights, and it became the most successful entry in the franchise to date. Atlus capitalized on the popularity ofPersona 5by launchingseveral newPersonainstallmentsthat featured the JRPG’s cast of characters, almost all of which (aside fromPersona Q2) received full English dubs. With this in mind, the lack of an English dub inPersona 5: The Phantom Xis a tad strange.

AlthoughPersona 5: The Phantom Xis set in an alternate universe and primarily has a new cast of characters, the main protagonists ofPersona 5, the Phantom Thieves, do appear in the game. If an English dub for the game was ever made, it would have to feature new voice actors. However, there would still besome returning cast members in the dub, so Atlus wouldn’t have to find new talent for every character in the game. While it is possible that the company will add English voice acting toPersona 5: The Phantom Xin a future update, the decision to not include it at launch is somewhat disappointing, as it could drive some players away from the game.
