Summary
APokemonfan has shared a fusion of Luvdisc and Overqwil, two fish-like Pokemon that are typically seen as complete opposites. Luvdisc tends to be popular in thePokemonseries and its world due to looking like a pink heart, while Overqwil is a spiky, aggressive pufferfish-like pocket monster that typically draws the opposite reaction.
Combining two Pokemon lacking much in common is one of the appeals ofPokemonfusion fan art. While some creations put similar Pokemon together, there’s nothing stopping talented artists from imagining some of the most disparate Pokemon around and showing what it might be like if they were fused into one being.
While Overqwil and Luvdisc are bothfish-like Pokemon, they don’t have much else in common, making this fusion a bit more unusual. The artist, Matratzfratz, has shared what the Pokemon would look like, which retains most of Luvdisc’s body, but modifies it by incorporating elements of Overqwil. The result is a Luvdisc-shaped Pokemon called Luvqwil that’s covered in spikes, which has seen its colors split into two. Instead of a traditional mark on its cheek, the fusion Pokemon sheds a tear, as it still has the personality of Luvdisc and wants to be part of a group, but its spikes scare away other pocket monsters. The artist ended up changing the typing of the Pokemon to Water/Dark, which combines elements of both of the original Pokemon. A Shiny variant of the Pokemon was also included, which swaps out the purple and pink colors of the standard form to red and pale pink, instead.
Pokemon Fusion Concepts are Varied
This is far from the first time that artists have producedPokemonfusion fanart. The subject tends to be popular with fans, as it’s something that’s been extremely rare to see in the series at all, making it exciting to think about. In the past, artists have done things like combine similar Pokemon with one another, like Tyranitar and Tyrantrum, orfusing Ninetales and Umbreon together. However, mixing two Pokemon with even less in common than Luvdisc and Overqwil is also common, with some weirder fusions including Mew and Magikarp or Eevee and Terapagos.
The limited number of officialPokemonfusions in the series hasn’t stopped fans from creating their own. Fan art is a common method of doing so, but the series has even seen anunofficial game in the form ofPokemon Infinite Fusion, which allows players to fuse the pocket monsters that they capture with one another. While it seems unlikely that thePokemonseries will ever get to the point of letting players combine any two Pokemon they like, there are a lot of fans who would likely be excited to see that change.
