Pokemon Legends: Z-Ais a successor to the sixth generation of games and will take place within the Kalos region’s Lumiose City. Given its setting, players expected the return of Mega Evolutions as soon as it was announced, and Game Freak made sure not to disappoint by confirming it. Since then, aleaked list of new Mega Evolutions forPokemon Legends: Z-Awas released by an unknown individual, and while it shows promise, especially because of who’s in it, there is one issue that could make the mechanic’s new members feel underwhelming.

Mega Evolution was the staple gimmick of the sixth generation of games, and became one of the most popular due to how it drastically changes certain Pokemon. After many years, fans can enjoy it once again in a brand-new experience viaPokemon Legends: Z-A,and while its return is great, the leaks suggest it isn’t as ambitious as one might hope. Among the 27 Pokemon that are a part of the leaked Mega Evolution list, only 5 change or gain an additional type. This would be disappointing, as the gimmick was meant to give certain monsters a chance to be in the spotlight or reclaim it, which getting a new type can help with.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s leaked Mega Evolutions aren’t confirmed yet, so all leaks should be treated with some skepticism for now.

The Leaked Mega Evolutions Barely Touch on Pokemon Types

The leaked Mega Evolutions only changing a couple of Pokemon’s types would bea huge sin forPokemon Legends: Z-A. Limited change in this area would be problematic for a few reasons:

If the leaks turn out to be official, then it would be rather unfortunate, given the potential for what could have been. Still, there is no telling what will happen; fans will have to wait and see if Game Freak ultimately confirms the rumors or has something else in mind.

What Pokemon Legends: Z-A Can Do if the Mega Evolution Type Leaks Are Confirmed

If the Mega Evolutions fall flat, perhaps Game Freak should consider implementing aMega Evolution DLC forPokemon Legends: Z-A. While it may not solve the problem of the barely touched-upon types, it can at least alleviate it by adding more monsters to the list. A new batch of Mega Evolutions that focus on changing types will not only make up for the wasted potential of the leaks, assuming they turn out to be true, but it can also better emphasize how important and game-changing the gimmick can be. If implemented and executed well, it could justify Mega Evolutions appearing in games beyondPokemon Legends: Z-Aand finally becoming a franchise staple.

Thanks to thelate 2025 release ofPokemon Legends: Z-A, there is still time for Game Freak to confirm or discredit the rumors and leaks about the upcoming Mega Evolutions. Regardless of what happens, hopefully, the developer will add more monsters whose types change via Mega Evolution, as it wouldn’t be just for the game’s benefit, but also for the fans.
