20th Century Studios dropped a teaser trailer forPredator: Badlandson Wednesday. The opening scene features a trophy room with an alien head fromIndependence Day. Also called the Harvesters, these extraterrestrial beings are highly intelligent and technologically advanced. They invaded Earth to use the planet’s resources, and they nearly extinguished humanity. The trailer also features Fanning’s Thia being tied up in what appears to be a tree, and her eyes display the Weyland-Yutani logo stylized as W and Y. The distinctive emblem from theAlienfranchise first appeared in the 1979Alienmovie. TheWeyland-Yutanilogo signifies the company’s pervasive influence and technological ambition with corporate dominance. The same logo seems to appear on the shoulder of her suit. Many took this as confirmation that she’s a Weytani-Yutani android. The logline that comes along with the trailer reads:
[Predator: Badlands] is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
The teaser received praise from fans, who were pleased that a Predator was finally the main protagonist. According to them, it’s about time to show the Predator in this light. In the trailer, Thia is telling the young Predator, Dek, that he is “hunting something that can’t be killed.” Then it cuts to a scene where a massive beast faces the Predator, and the latter screams. Fans were delighted to witness such facial expressions from the Predator. Another thing that many love about it is how the Predator seemingly roams around the galaxy to search for trophies. Many approve this because the human versus predator plot no longer works for them.Predator: Badlandsis directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the same man behind Prey andPredator: Killer of Killers. Trachtenberg produces the film with John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor.
