Sony has revealed the most popular games downloaded byPlayStation 5users in April 2025, and much of the list comprises titles published by the gaming giant’s biggest competitor: Xbox. In April, three Xbox first-party games made their way toPS5, and all of them have ranked in the top 20 downloads for the month, in addition to other Microsoft-owned titles.

Each month, Sony shares download charts for the PlayStation Store, providing insight into what PlayStation gamers are playing the most across major markets like the US, Canada, and Europe. Ever since Microsoft’s multiplatform push earlier in 2024, the PlayStation download charts have featured a greater volume of Xbox games. Case in point,Sea of Thieveswas the most downloaded PS5 game in May 2024, and as more Microsoft games show up on PlayStation consoles, Xbox’s software dominance over its greatest rival grows.

Xbox games topped the PlayStation Store’s pre-order rankingsjust last month, and now, many of them have reigned supreme in the April 2025 download charts as well. Over on the PlayStation Blog, newly-published data reveals thatThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredsecured the top spot for paid PS5 downloadsin the US and Canada - a rather impressive feat considering it launched just over a week before the end of April.The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredeven managed to edge out long-running chart mainstayMinecraft, which occupied second place and is yet another Xbox-owned game.

It doesn’t end there, though, as Playground Games' critically-acclaimed open-world racerForza Horizon 5turned out a huge success on PS5too, claiming third place on the April 2025 download charts. Across the Atlantic, the European PS5 download charts told a slightly different story, withForza Horizon 5taking the number one spot, whileOblivion Remasteredfollowed close behind in second and Minecraft came in third.Forza Horizon 5’s sales pace on PS5 is perhaps even more impressive than that ofOblivion Remastered, since the racing game launched on April 29 - just one day before month’s end.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Also Charted Well Among PS5’s Top Downloads

Aside from these three games, a few more Xbox-owned titles were also present among the most popular PS5 downloads for April 2025. MachineGames’Indiana Jones and the Great Circle performed well on PS5following its April 17 launch, taking 11th and 8th positions in the US/Canada and Europe charts respectively, while Treyarch’sCall of Duty: Black Ops 6came in at 7th and 10th. In the free-to-play charts,Call of Duty: Warzoneclaimed second place in the US, Canada, and Europe, just afterFortnite.

Seeing Xbox first-party games dominate the upper echelons of the most popular PS5 games is nothing short of surreal, and Microsoft is no doubt very happy with its multiplatform venture bearing fruit.
