Krafton has rolled out a new update forPUBG: Battlegrounds, which introduces destructible terrain and implements a range of gameplay enhancements and balance adjustments. The update launched onPUBG: Battlegroundsfor PC on May 14, with the console version scheduled to follow on May 22. This release is part of the company’s larger 2025 roadmap that aims to bring advanced gameplay, including interactive environments, to more maps.
First released in 2017,PUBG: Battlegroundshelped define the battle royale genre. Over the years, Krafton has worked to evolve its core mechanics through updates and content expansions. At the height of its success, it was the most popular online shooter title, appearing at several major esports tournaments. Now, Krafton is aiming to evolve the game to better respond to the expectations of a modern online shooter, partly due tostiffer competition forPUBG: Battlegrounds.
The most significant change in patch 35.2 is the addition of destructible terrain on Taego. Destructible terrain,introduced in thePUBG: Battlegrounds 2024roadmap, allows explosives like grenades, mortars, C4, and Panzerfausts to alter sections of the map. This lets players create or remove cover, providing more complex gameplay and enabling new tactics. For more sneaky survivors, the pickaxe, now available in Taego, allows the modification of terrain in a more controlled manner, albeit much more slowly.
PUBG’s May 2025 Update Includes New Tactical Tools and Cross-Map Changes
Beyond terrain changes to Taego, the update also brings other new interactions to several maps. The new Vehicle Camouflage Netting item is now live on two ofPUBG: Battlegrounds' classic maps, Erangel and Miramar. The nets let players hide their vehicles better, making spotting the transports and shooting their tires harder for opponents. Another major change affects Vending Machines. Previously exclusive to Miramar, they are now spawning in Erangel and Taego as well, offering Painkillers and Energy Drinks to wounded and thirsty combatants, with the possibility of a rare jackpot.
Other additions to Erangel are destructible pots, offering explosives and medical items, with a slightly altered item spawn list. In addition to new items and interactive features, there are also smaller fixes and changes. These include several revamps to the C4 and the Inflatable Boat. Among other changes, the former is now placed directly instead of being thrown and is considered a Special Weapon. The speed of the boat has been increased, and the weight decreased, making it a better overall transport vehicle.
Performance improvements are also present in the patch, makingPUBG: Battlegroundsrun more smoothly.In an effort to harmonize the game’s maps, Krafton has confirmed that these previously exclusive interactive elements are gradually coming to other maps as well. The developer aims to include them in all 8x8 maps in the future, offering players a lot to look forward to.
