Spider-Noiris a live-action series that’s part of Sony’sSpider-ManUniverse (SSU). It’s not connected to theMarvel Cinematic Universe(MCU). The project was first announced in February 2023 as a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon. Oren Uziel develops the project, while Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal serve as executive producers. Cage’s casting for the titular role was announced in May 2024 at Amazon’s upfront presentation. The Ghost Rider’s star voiced Spider-Man Noir in the animated filmSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versein 2018. Finally, fans get a glimpse of Cage’s official look as Spider-Noir.
Amazon released a black-and-white photo of Cage’s first look for theSpider-Noirseries. He embodies the titular hero with a striking noir aesthetic, rocking the private investigator’s signature classic fedora, full mask covering his face with goggle-style eye lenses, and a billowing trench coat evoking a gritty atmosphere. His entire costume is black and monochromatic. In the snap, Cage perfected one ofSpider-Man’s signature poses. Of course, that’s given, after all, he is Spider-Man, just not the typical Peter Parker most see on the big screen, portrayed byTom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield. He is Spider-Man from Earth-90214, a universe set in the 1930s America during the Great Depression. His story is much darker, grittier, and includes noir detective stories.
MyTimeToShine shared the photo onX, formerly Twitter. The majority agreed that it was impressive and gave it a thumbs-up, showing their approval of how the character was designed for the live-action series. “Really can’t get more accurate than that,” Vent It Mediacommentedwith a fire emoji. Others were equally impressed, describing Cage’sSpider-Noirfirst look as “absolutely beautiful” and “awesome.” The photo was a treat to fans who have been waiting for the project for two years already because it was the first image of Cage in full costume as Spider-Noir. He has been photographed while filming the series, but without his signature mask. In October 2024, some photos of Cage from the set circulated on social media. In one photo, he is seated on the steps wearing his signature trench coat and black fedora. In another shot, his character appears beaten with visible bruises on his face. In the third picture, he looked defeated, lying on the ground.
Spider-Noirhas a unique story compared to the previousSpider-Manmovies and TV shows. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider during a science experience, this version of Peter Parker is bitten by a spider spirit he encounters while investigating an ancient artifact – a spider idol.Spider-Noiris a darker, alternative version ofSpider-Man. It blends superhero action with darker and more mature storytelling. Cage’sSpider-Noirwill be a fresh take onSpider-Manfor most fans, making it interesting enough. This is not the typical Peter Parker from high school struggling with his identity and becoming a superhero. It is so much different. This show may appeal to those who love film noir, crime thrillers, and 1930s mystery dramas. Those who enjoyedRobert Pattinson’sThe Batman(2022), Bruce Willis’Sin City(2005), and Humphrey Bogart’sThe Maltese Falcon(1941) might find this show enjoyable too.
Spider-Noiris expected to premiere on MGM+ and Prime Video in 2026.
