Summary
Robert Pattinson is set to return inThe Batman 2. However, it has been repeatedly delayed, and there are rumors that the nextBatmanfilm will not be Pattinson’s.
Pattinson’sThe Batman(2022) is a reboot of the film franchise anddirected by Matt Reeves. Pattinson’sThe Batmanwas unlike most previous films because it had a gritty tone and atmospheric cinematography, giving a fresh take on the character. However, fans loved its detective-driven narrative, including theTwilightstar’s brooding performance. The Batmanwas both a critical and commercial success, so Warner Bros. announced its sequel,The Batman - Part II, just over a month after the first movie’s release. However, according to an insider, the sequel to Pattinson’sBatmanmay not be the next film featuring The Dark Knight.
It has been three years sinceThe Batman 2was announced. However, there’s no definite update about its development other than its continued delay. In a recent episode ofThe Hot Mic, entertainment insider Jeff Sneider offered an update about the film. According to him, Reeves' upcoming superhero flick featuring Pattinson may not be the nextBatmanmovie that fans will witness. “The signs that I’m getting is that the next Batman movie won’t beThe Batman 2,” Sneider said. He added that the nextBatmanwill likely be “a world’s finest movie or something James Gunn-like.” Sneider also speculated that if Gunn’s next project is not a direct sequel toSuperman, then it will likely involve Superman and Batman because Warner Bros. and DC will likely want The Dark Knight back on the big screen.
In April, there wererumors thatThe Batman 2would be canceledafter reports that Pattinson would appear inDune 3. Fans were concerned there would be a conflict of schedule. Many have been looking forward to Pattinson’s return asBatman, but to their dismay, it has already been pushed back at least twice. Initially, the film was set for release on Jun 25, 2025. However, it was moved to Jun 19, 2025, and then again moved to June 15, 2025. Even Pattinson, himself, joked about the sequel’s delay. In an interview with Hero Magazine in March, he was asked if he was doingThe Batman 2soon and his response was hilarious. TheMickey 17actor said he was still young when they filmed the firstBatman, buthe would be “old Batman by the sequel.”
Considering the trajectory ofThe Batman 2,Sneider has a point. Pattinson’sThe Batman - Part IIis not part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. Gunn also said in previous interviews that Pattinson is unlikely to play DCU’sThe Dark Knight, suggesting that they will be casting another actor to be theirBatman. Considering this, Gunn could release their own movie featuring the fan-favorite superhero with a new lead. However, fans might be confused if there are two Batmen.
Regardless, Batman is expected to join the DCU because he is part of the DC Comics Trinity, which includes Superman and Wonder Woman. The trio balances optimism, realism, and cynicism, and they are themost popular superheroes from DC Comics. Gunn and Safran had already introduced a newSupermanin the person of David Corenswet. Many are looking forward to who will portray Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot and Batman in the revamped DCU after Ben Affleck. The only good thing about Sneider’s news is that fans need not wait until 2027 to seeBatmanon the big screen. Unfortunately for Pattinson’s fans, it will have a new and probably younger lead.
Pattinson’sThe Batman - Part IIwill hit theaters on August 01, 2025.
