There are three challenges to complete per chapter inDOOM: The Dark Ages, and some of them involve tracking down collectibles and secrets way off the beaten path. The Layover challenge in chapter five, in particular, is giving a lot of players trouble because the secret dragon landing zones are quite hard to find amidst all the chaos.
The fifth chapter ofDOOM: The Dark Agesintroduces the dragon, which opens up a whole new layer of exploration that goes beyond anything the series has seen before. The developers have hidden all sorts of things in levels involving the dragon since the player can cover so much distance with a mount, and the Layover challenge is the perfect example of this. Thankfully, thetwo secret dragon landing zonesin chapter five ofDOOM: The Dark Agesare pretty easy to access.
Layover Dragon Landing Zone Locations In DOOM: The Dark Ages
There aretwo secret dragon landing zonesin chapter five ofDOOM: The Dark Ages, and players must find both of them in order to complete the optional Layover challenge. These two landing zones are accessible right from the beginning of the level, but players can miss them if they proceed too far into the chapter and reach a point of no return.
Secret Dragon Landing Zone #1
Thefirst secret dragon landing zonein chapter five ofDOOM: The Dark Agescan be found as soon as players reach the open-air portion of the level after the brief dragon tutorial segment. As soon as the objective changes to destroying the four hell carriers, players should turn left and look for abig titan atop a tower. Slaying this titanic demon will unlock the first secret dragon landing zone.
There’s aGore Neston this spire that rewards aDemonic Essenceupon completion, plus some gold.Demonic Essence is used to upgrade maximum statsinDOOM: The Dark Ages, so these shouldn’t be ignored. With the nest cleared, players can move onto the next Layover landing zone.
Secret Dragon Landing Zone #2
The second secret dragon landing zone for the Layover challenge is located a short distance from the first one. Directlyunderneath one of the targeted hell carriersis a circular garden area suspended over adeep pit. The second Layover landing zone is guarded by another titan at the bottom of said pit.
This landing area has aPulverizer weapon skinwaiting for players, plus some helpful upgrade materials like gold and aRuby. To reach the rewards, players should use the shield throw ability to get the Red Keycard and reach the Ruby. Then, they just need to follow the trail of nearby gold to find the weapon skin.
With both landing zones unlocked, players will receive 50 bonus gold for completing the Layover challenge in chapter five ofDOOM: The Dark Ages. There are even more challenges to complete throughout the game’s campaign, andchapter six has quite a few collectiblesin particular.
