“Paranoia” is one ofOblivion Remastered’s most interesting side-quests. On the surface, it may seem like a run-of-the-mill ‘follow’ quest. However, if you complete the quest multiple times, trying different options each playthrough, you’ll discover that it is far more complex than it originally appeared. “Paranoia” stands as a perfect example of the care that Bethesda put into so much ofOblivion, and is a testament to the fact that after almost 20 years,Oblivion Remasteredis blowing the minds of a whole new generation. In this guide, we’ll provide you witha complete guide toOblivion Remastered’s “Paranoia” side-quest, includingall possible endings.

How to Start Paranoia in Oblivion Remastered

Like many of the side-quests inOblivion Remastered,“Paranoia” will first come to your attention through a random encounter. However, you can put yourself in the best position to ensure it occurs as soon as you’d like it to. Once you’ve completed the tutorial, and have access to the full map ofCyrodiil, you’ll want to visit the city ofSkingrad.

Skingrad is located east of Kvatch, and southwest of the Imperial City. While it may not sound exciting, your first goal is to simply enter the city, and begin walking around. Eventually, you’ll be approached by a Wood Elf namedGlarthir. We encountered him as he was exiting theWest Weald Inn,but the encounter can take place anywhere in the city.

Glarthir will call you over, and ask tomeet with him at midnightbehind the Great Chapel of Julianos. Completing this interaction will add “Paranoia” to your list of quests.

Completing Paranoia: Part 1 – Oblivion Remastered

Glarthir Meeting 1 – Great Chapel, Midnight:

“Paranoia” first tasks you with meeting Glarthir behind the Great Chapel (he’s referring to theGreat Chapel of Julianos). You’ll need to meet him atmidnight. The best option is to reach the location early, then set theWaitmechanic to 11:00PM. He arrived at the location around 11:30PM for us.

Glarthir will give you the first real insight into some type of conspiracy that he believes is going on in Skingrad. He claims he is being watched by several people. He asks you to find out what is going on, and gives you the first target he would like you to follow:Bernadette Peneles.

He tells you to be outside his home at 6:00AM to look out for Bernadette, then follow her.

If you decide you’d rather not help Glarthir by becoming a stalker, and refuse when prompted, Glarthir will attempt to kill Bernadette later that day. The guards will kill him, and the quest will show as completed. Unfortunately, you will not receive any of the rewards.

Glarthir Meeting 2 – Glarthir’s House, 6AM:

The next morning, you’re supposed to wait outside Glarthir’s House and watch for Bernadette Peneles, who lives across the street. It becomes painfully clear as you follow Bernadette that she is not interested in Glarthir at all. She spends a significant amount of time in the Chapel, then returns to her home. you may continue to follow her throughout the day, but nothing incriminating ever seems to occur.

Glarthir Meeting 3 – Great Chapel, Midnight:

After following Bernadette, return to the meeting point behind the Great Chapel at midnight to give Glarthir your report. You’ll have the following two options:

The remaining meetings will all follow the same format. Follow in the morning at 6AM, then meet Glarthir behind the Chapel at midnight. At this point, you can also decide whether to follow the suspects or not. None of them are actually following him. Telling him the truth about all three suspects will have a negative outcome for Glarthir, which we’ll explain below.

Following Suspect 2 – Toutious Sextius:

The next ‘suspect’ lives in the northeast corner of town. Arrive at the house at 6:00AM and follow him. Before Toutious came out of his home, we were confronted by a guard namedDion, who tried to convince us Glarthir was crazy. He told us to report Glarthir to the guards if he ever asked us to do anything strange.

As mentioned previously, you may follow Toutious all day, but you won’t find any evidence that he is engaged in any conspiracy. You can once again either lie to Glarthir, or tell him the truth, that no one was following him – at least not Toutious.

Following Suspect 3 – Davide Surilie:

The final suspect is David Surilie, and he lives in the large house on the plot north of Glarthir’s House. In the morning, you can follow Davide to The West Weald, which means he’s not even in the city. He has no interest in following Glarthir. As the last target, returning to Glarthir will set the ending of the quest in motion.

Return to Glarthir at Midnight:

After completing the task of following Davide Surilie, return to the meeting point behind the Chapel at midnight. There is an important choice you have to make at this point if you’ve told Glarthir the truth about the first two suspects.

Ending 1 - All Truth:

If you tell Glarthir the truth for a third time,he will become hostile and attack you.Killing him will result in the end of his quest. You can collect his house key from his body and loot his home for several low-level items that are worth a decent amount of gold when sold.

Ending 2 – Tell the Guards or the Surilie Brothers:

If you decide to tell Glarthir that any one or more of the three suspects were watching him, he will hand you a note. You can take the note to any guard, and they will end up confronting Glarthir and killing him. This will earn youone Fame point. You can collect the house keys if you follow the guard and watch them kill Glarthir.

you may also take the note to the Surilie brothers, and they will kill Glarthir. However, you won’t get the Fame point through this method.

Ending 3 – Kill for Glarthir:

If you decide to follow through on one or more of the killings, you may find the suspects along the same paths they were on when you followed them. The easiest way to complete this task is to find them leaving their homes early in the morning, just as before. Glarthir will reward you with1000 Goldfor helping to end his conspiracy.

As a side note, killing any of the targets for Glarthir will count towards theDark Brotherhoodrequirements. If you sleep after killing a victim, they will visit you upon awakening.

This will end “Paranoia.” There are likely even more ways to play this out, as killing has so many possible ramifications. This quest has an incredible amount of replay value. We recommend you try it differently each time you playOblivion Remastered.
