Squid Gamefans have a field day after the release of Season 3’s first teaser. However, many are also sad at the possibility of these two fan-favorites dying in the final season.
Squid GameSeason 1 debuted in September 2021 and it was a massive hit. It took over three years for the second season of the South Korean psychological survival drama to be released. Fortunately, the wait for the third and final season isn’t that long because it will drop next month, just six months after the release of Season 2. However, some favorites might not make it out alive in the finale.
The first teaser ofSquid GameSeason 3not only featured the return of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), but it also revealed one of the potential games. The teaser features a giant gumball machine where each player has to get one ball – either red or blue. Gi-hun, Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yuri), and Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-sim) can be seen holding red balls. On the other hand, Geum-ja’s son, Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun), and Cho Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon) have blue balls. Since there are only two colors, fans are quick to assume that it will be the red players against the blue ones. However, many feel that the red players will beat the blue ones because Gi-hun is team red and he will likely make it to the final round. Also, one scene in the teaser features Geum-ja crying, which many assume is due to her son’s death. Some fans thought of the worst scenario – that the mother and son could see themselves against each other. In this case, one of them has to die for the other to win. Either way, it will surely leave the surviving family member with heartbreak.
Several fans are heartbroken at the realization that Yong-sik andHyun-jucould die inSquid GameSeason 3. The pair has already gained many fans, especially Hyun-jun, the transwoman, who is also a former Special Forces soldier. She played a major role inSeason 2, training those who supported the rebellion on how to use the firearms and leading them in the battle. She showcased bravery, genuine concern for others, resilience, and leadership. Some of the fans were even more impressed with her than they were with Gi-hun in Season 2. The character was well-written and it effectively won the hearts of the audience. Hence, many want her to survive so she can go to Thailand and have surgery, which is why she joinedSquid Game.
Squid Gameis full of surprises, and if one revisits the first season, only one of the 456 players will survive. Thus, aside from Hyun-jun andYong-sik, fans will likely witness more deaths. However, there are still chances that more will survive since the players can stop the game if the majority of them agree to do so. Between the two – Yong-sik and Hyun-jun – there are more chances for the latter to survive. Even if it will be red versus blue, it doesn’t guarantee that all of those who get the blue balls will win. The colors of the ball will probably just determine their team, but it will still be an individual fight. However, if the mother and son find themselves against each other, there’s no doubt that one will be left grieving. And from the look of it, it seems that one mother just lost a son, while another welcomed a newborn baby.
