With the 1.6 update ofStardew Valley, a Mastery system was introduced, allowing players to master the game’s five fundamental skills: Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat. Byearning experience pointsin these skills, players can enter the Mastery Cave and claim all five masteries with Grandpa’s guidance.
Players have embraced this update and the accompanying rewards as an exciting addition to the endgame ofStardew Valley. However, achieving mastery in all five skills can be a challenging task, requiring significant time and effort to accumulate the necessary experience points. Here’s everything players need to know about getting all the available Mastery rewards.
Unlocking The Mastery Cave
Where It Is And How To Get In
The Mastery Cave is located in Cindersap Forest, above and to the right of the area whereSpring Onionsspawn andthe Trash Bear appears. If players interact with the door before gaining access, they will be presented with the following text: “Only a master of the five ways may enter (X/5).” X represents the number of skills in which the player has reached level 10.
Players will need to reach level 10 in all skills (Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat) before they can enter the cave. Inside, there is a note in the bottom right cornerfrom the player’s Grandpathat reads:
“My dear Player Name,
If you’re reading this note, you’ve found the secret room I’ve prepared for you. Within these walls are tips, recipes, and even some of my most cherished tools… all the very best from the many happy years I spent in the valley.
By coming this far, you’ll have proven that you possess the skill and wisdom to make good use of these powerful secrets. I hope my discoveries help you in your journey to making Player’s Farm Name a shining star of the whole world!
Mastery Points, Explained
What They Are And How To Use Them
Mastery Points are essentially experience points (XP) that players earn after reaching level 10 in each skill. Theyserve as the currencyneeded to unlock various mastery levels, with a total of 100,000 points required to master all skills. Each of the five mastery levels demands a specific number of Mastery Points to be reached:
At each new level unlocked, players will see an on-screen message that reads, “You’ve reached a new level of understanding…” This message indicates that a new level of Mastery has been achieved. Once players receive this message, they can go to the Mastery Cave to choose which of the five available masteries to claim, with each offering different rewards.
Players can track their Mastery Points in the Skills tab and view their selected Masteries in the Special Items & Powers tab of the character menu.

Inside the Mastery Cave, five pillars stand, each representing a skill inStardew Valley. Players canview the rewardsfor mastering each skill at any point by interacting with these pillars.
