A New Boxing Game Is in Development
Thankfully, Turki Alalshikh, who has become a prominent figure in the sporting world ever since vowing to “fix broken boxing” in 2024, has now revealed a new boxing game with legendary video game developer Takashi Nishiyama and his studio, Dimps. In a new post on Twitter, Alalshikh said the game will be presented by The Ring and will feature original characters. Nishiyama is best known for creatingthe iconicStreet Fighterserieswhile working at Capcom in the late 80s. The developer then went on to create his own studio in 2000, developing variousSonic,Dragon Ball, andStreet Fightergames, among many others.
With the ink on the contract only just drying, development on the new boxing game has yet to commence, but Alalshikh says work on the title will “begin soon,” with more details to be unveiled at a later date. While it’s great news for fans eager for more mainstream boxing video games, the untitled game is likely still many years away as development has yet to begin.
The news comes after an insider shared apromising update surrounding EA’sFight Nightserieslast year. According to Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, EA is currently in the process of reviving the series, which has been left dormant since 2011. Rumors suggest that development on a newFight Nightgame has been paused and restarted multiple times, with EA supposedly concerned about potential sales.
While theFight Nightseries hasn’t had a new entry since 2011, EA has still been developing new fighting games alongside the UFC. EA entered a partnership with the UFC over ten years ago when it launched the first entry in its mixed martial arts fighting game series,EA Sports UFC. The studio has gone on to develop a total of five entries in the series, with rumors suggesting thatEA Sports UFC 6is now in development.
