Summary
The vast galaxy of the 41st millennium is a terrifying place for the average soldier in theWarhammer 40ksetting. Hopelessly outgunned by unending swarms ofbloodthirsty xenosand hellish warp daemons, comfort and safety are reserved for a privileged few.
The Chaos Space Marine faction is the sworn enemy of humanity. These once loyal, now corrupted Astartes will stop at nothing to burn the galaxy to ashes. While fighting this long war of destruction, the forces of Chaos release devastating machines of war on their enemies. These nightmare creations often blur the line between daemon and machine, and are capable of incredible destructive power.
10Chaos Tanks
Deadly & Efficient Killers
From chaos-corrupted Land Raiders, Predators, and Rhinos, to the Death Guard-created Plagueburst Crawlers and Myphitic Blight-haulers, the tanks used by Chaos arefoul abominationsof their Imperial counterparts.
Tanks are the backbone of any military campaign and remain devastating weapons of the Chaos powers. From transporting infantry to the front lines, destroying enemy positions with a barrage of destructive ordnance, or breaking through enemy lines, Chaos tanks are effective machines of death. At the same time, many of these tanks may at first seem like any other vehicle, but Chaos tanks can become as warp-touched as the heretics that drive them.
9Helbrutes
Cursed Warriors Made Insane
Helbrutes are twisted and tortured, walking sarcophagi, powered by a former Heretic Astartes that now bears little resemblance to the original ancient warrior. When wounded beyond repair, thesecorrupted Astartesare entombed within a Helbrute and slowly driven mad by the endless decades of war without end.
Armed with powerful weaponry, from powerful plasma cannons to whip-like metal tentacles, Helbrutes easily break enemy lines by sheer power and withstand colossal damage before being stopped. They are the warp-corrupted Dreadnaughts of the Chaos legions, screaming rage as they storm into battle.
8Foetid Bloat Drones
Bringing Death & Disease From Above
One of the primary aerial combat machines of the Death Guard traitor legion, these putrid daemon engines buzz above enemies like giant armored flies. They are infused with the essence of a daemon of Nurgle and are a pulsating blend of bloated, diseased flesh and machine.
Armed with a variety of plague-infected weaponry, from fleshmowers to plague spitters, any unlucky souls targeted by Bloat Drones are not long for this world. Other variants of this foul machine are known as Blight Drones and appear as large mechanized larvae, whose incessant drone instills fear and dread in all who hear its approach.
7Forgefiends/Maulerfiends
Warp-Forged Monsters
These terrifying beast-like daemon engines, designed by the Warpsmiths of the Dark Mechanicum, instill panic in all who look upon them. Powered by unnatural warp fire, these monsters aredevastating weapons of war.
The Forgefiends are long-range specialists. Armed with Hades Autocannons, whole battalions of soldiers can be mowed down in a single engagement, while the Forgefiend simply moves on to find new targets. The Maulerfiend, however, is its close-range counterpart, designed to break enemy lines with ferocious power and rage.
6Lord Of Skulls
Altars To The Blood God
Created deep within the Eye of Terror by only the most skilled Warpsmiths, these red-armored daemon engines are dedicated to the blood god Khorne. Appearing as half Khornite warrior and half tank, the Lord of Skulls is powered by the captured spirit of a Bloodthirster, one of the Greater Daemons of Khorne. All the daemon’s rage and bloodlust are infused into the machine, making them near-unstoppable engines of carnage.
They are armed with a variety of daemon weapons and are seen as deadly altars to the chaos god Khorne by his followers, who blindly rush into battle in its wake. Rarer versions of the Lord of Skulls, known as a Lord of Battles, are even larger and can rage across battlefields, killing everything in sight.
5Heldrakes
Raining Fire From Above
Like the ancient dragons of legend, Heldrakesrain down fire and destructionwith savage glee. These large daemon engines, ritually created by Warpsmiths, can cling to the undersides of spaceships like bats. Deploying from orbit, they can decimate a planet’s defenses within hours and roam the skies searching for new prey to burn.
Once fighter aircraft for the Astartes, these warp-touched monsters are now living machines of war and are infused with daemonic warp energy. Extremely fast and difficult to destroy, Heldrakes are a constant threat during large-scale Chaos invasions.
4Decimator
Powerful & Near-Indestructible Daemon Engines
While rarely seen, Decimators are some of the most dangerous and unstoppable daemon engines used by the Chaos faction. These huge, two-legged death machines are an unholy blend of warp-fused metal and flesh. While their origins areshrouded in mystery, they are mainly found in the far reaches of the galactic south.
Walking tall on two legs, Decimators are armed with all manner of hell-forged weapons, from huge siege claws to devastating storm lasers. They are extremely resilient and require near-absolute destruction to be rendered harmless. While often used by Chaos Undivided forces, some have also been ritually bound to serve individual Chaos gods.
3Chaos Knights
Ancient Machines Turned Traitors
When humanity stretched out and colonized the galaxy during the dark age of technology, the galaxy was a hostile and dangerous place. For many, the Knights became their only source of protection. These powerful walking war-machines, controlled by powerful noble families, strode into battle armed with colossal weaponry and could flatten armies in their wake.
When the long night fell, and humanity became cut off from one another, planets protected by Knightly houses survived in the hostile galaxy. However, once again united into the Imperium, many of these Houses would take up arms and join with Horus, corrupting their bloodlines and Knights. Chaos Knights are terrifying machines of death. A single knight can turn the tide of a battle and decimate thousands during a conflict. They no longer resemble the noble houses of their past, but distorted nightmares of war.
2Brass Scorpions
The Largest Daemon Engine Ever Seen
One of the biggest daemon engines ever seen in the galaxy, Brass Scorpions are colossal machines of death that serve the blood god Khorne. While rarely encountered, the appearance of a Brass Scorpion is like a portent of death to all who witness it.
While its massive, multi-legged form storms across battlefields, with surprising speed and agility, its terrifying array of armaments reduces enemy positions to molten slag. With blood-red armor praising the blood god, numerous large destructive weapons, and anunending bloodlust, Brass Scorpions are near-unstoppable.
1Chaos Titans
Walking Fortresses Of Corruption
The colossal Imperial Titans of Mars are the Adeptus Mechanicus’s most revered and deadly war machines and were first created long ago during the age of Strife. They are considered to be the greatest embodiment of the machine-god ever created and are often referred to as God-Machines by the Tech-Priests.
However, during the Horus Heresy, when Mars was split by civil war, and many turned to the powers of Chaos and the Arch-traitor, many Titan legions followed. Chaos Titans are towering machines of death that stretch far above battlefields, bringing destruction with every step. Many Chaos Titan crews are fused with their machines and are tainted by daemon possession. These giant machines of war are walking fortresses that can reduce entire cities to rubble within hours.
