A unique feature has come and gone asFortnite’s seasons go on, and it may be the right time for it to make a comeback. Almost every season ofFortnitehas provided players with something new to mix up the status quo. Sometimes these end up being long-term improvements, such as running, while others can last only a single season before disappearing. Some of the ideas that didn’t end up sticking around actually ended up being good additions to the game. In an upcomingFortniteseason, one particular idea would be well worth seeing in the game once again: Augments.
WithFortnite’s newStar Wars-themed season, players have a new slate of opportunities ahead of them. Admittedly, this is not the first time thatFortnitehas crossed over withStar Wars, with ionic characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker having already made their debuts in the past. However, it follows the pattern of new seasons bringing their own flavor to the game. In particular, the slate ofStar Wars-themed weapons and locations is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the current season. However, some seasons have gone beyond simple theming to bring entirely new mechanics toFortnite’s gameplay formula, with Augments being a standout.
Bringing Back Augments Could Return an Exciting Wild Card to Fortnite’s Gameplay
Reality Augments Provided Players With a Selection of Perks in Fortnite
Chapter 4: Season 1 sawFortnite’s Reality Augment mechanicadded to the game, bringing an extra layer of unpredictability. Every two and a half minutes, players would be given a choice between two augments that would provide a perk that lasts for the rest of the match. The effects of these augments spanned several areas, such as damage, healing, and mobility. While the augments offered are random, players can build their strategy around the ones that they have on hand, making the most out of what they get. Unfortunately,Fortnitewould end up removing reality augments when Chapter 4’s OG season was released.
Reality augments were one of the most uniquechanges made toFortnite, and they would be well worth seeing again in the near future. The main advantage that they brought to the game was unpredictability, with many augments being fun extras that could make a match more entertaining, such as:
Many of these augments can open options for players that aren’t normally available, making them quite valuable.
Some Augments Still Haven’t Been Seen in Fortnite
There are also some augments that went unused. The plannedaugments forFortniteChapter 5never properly made it into the game, nor did several other planned augments. Some of these effects sounded incredibly useful, like passively generating bars with each storm circle. At the same time, there were some that sounded just plain fun, like getting rifted after staying in the water for a while. It would be a shame if these perks never saw the game after being conceptualized. Bringing augments back toFortnitecould let players finally see how these unused concepts would play out in a real match.
Hopefully augments will someday return toFortnite. Some later additions to the game, such asNPCs onFortnite’s map, have become commonplace, so there’s still a chance for augments to become a part of the formula again. During their time in the game, they acted as a good way to shake up matches, giving players a random selection of perks every time they played. While their time in the game was brief, it was undoubtedly eventful. WithFortnitecontinuing to grow, there should be room for augments to eventually return.
